For those curious. This Drone(as he said in the video) is the DJI Phantom 3 Professional. Currently retails for $799 for just the copter. For the pack with the extra batteries, it's $999.

Eyes in the sky at every Anti First Amendment Riot, I know you pedes have spare funds and want to stick it to the authoritarian left (plus piloting a drone is fun AF)

Sure, no problem.

  • The camera comes with the drone, which is typical. I have the standard x3 camera, but now there's an x5 (for the low low price of $2,200). For drone photography, i've only flown with one company, DJI. My setup shouldn't be assumed as the norm in the industry. The DJI Inspire was and still remains in the top tier of the drone world.

  • I bought mine on amazon a little more than a year ago, and the prices have come down a bit since then. But there are other options which are capable of obtaining the same quality photos, such as the Phantom 3, or the new Phantom 4. With the announcement of the Phantom 4 just a couple days ago, those Phantom 3's will be unloaded in the coming months to ebay, so you may be able to get a steal on a deal.

  • Battery life is advertised at 20 minutes or so, but realistically you're going to get around 15-18 minutes. I baby everything, so I land at 30% not to risk something unexpected.

  • Memory is held on a micro SD card on the camera, which is capable of 64gb. It comes with a 16gb card which if you unload your memory after each session you shouldn't have issues with. Shooting 4k does take up a ton of memory, maybe a minute for a 1 gb, but then you have to be concerned with your computers ability. I have decent setups and the 4k is tough to edit. RAW photographs are about 25 mb per picture, and those add up too, but not to the extent that video does. Any other questions feel free to ask :)

Oh dear god.. you dont know? Oh wow.. you are going to LOVE this.

absolutely amazing if like me money isnt really a problem.

FPV, Waypoints.. flys itself. HD 4K video live streamed to googles.

take your hands off the transmitter it FLOATS there. You use your transmitter to adjust where it is.. rather than it falling out of the sky. Even my stupid 50 dollar learner quadcopter has 6 gyros that keep it stable.

hit a button if flies back to you. (I think it does it when the battery gets low too)

Basically think of EVERY single dream you have ever had about flying something with a camera 20 years ago and it has that.

This subreddit is (If i understand it right is for putting goggles on.. making a quadcopter and flying it like an aircraft with first person view) This might have been out of the scope of this really cool subreddit. Guys here race theirs and do all kinds of cool stuff.

The DJI is kinda like a mobile video platform that is super sturdy and designed to be very pleasant.

how long has he been using it? How many cycles has the battery gone through? Anything else coming with the sale other than the drone, controller, and battery?

Definitely want to know that before buying. A battery costs 120 - 160 right now.

Not a bad deal, unless the battery is crap or some part is broken.

The only equipment we used in this video was the [Phantom 3 Pro] (https://www.amazon.com/DJI-Phantom-Professional-Quadcopter-Camera/dp/B00VSITBJO/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?ie=UTF8&dpID=41gE6Dy9e%2BL&dpPl=1&keywords=dji%20phantom%203%20pro&pi=SX200_QL40&qid=1467992220&ref=plSrch&ref_=mp_s_a_1_1&sr=8-1) which is $799. The equipment for all of our videos is always in the description. We also use a Phantom 3 Advanced in some of our videos which is a few hundred dollars cheaper, here are some videos for comparison [1] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7r8_Pkj7tw) , [2] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZIeVHACL7Y). There are some others too on our channel so you should check them out.

I wish I was looking for a professional model. Looks like with the extra battery it's 1000 dollars on amazon. So I'd say that's a pretty good deal for what you are selling. My budget is about 500 so I'm looking for a standard model. Here is the link to the same drone on amazon and the price comparison if anyone was wondering.

Other than that I don't know diddly shit about drone value and depreciation.

If you REALLY want to use the GoPro, then the 3D Robotics Solo w/ Gimbal is the way to go. The Solo was designed specifically for using a GoPro, so you get features like FPV, camera control, and stabilization right out of the box.

The problem with using a GoPro on a drone is that to get good photos or videos, you want to be able to see what the camera is seeing, and ideally control the camera settings from the ground. Otherwise, you're basically flying blind. And to do that, you need a First Person View system, or FPV, which typically adds another $100 or more to the cost of your drone setup if it's not already built-in. Plus, if it's not built-in, you're piecing together a lot of different systems, which introduces the chance for compatibility issues.

The reason people don't recommend a Phantom for flying a GoPro is that the cost of a Phantom 2, plus everything you'd need to connect the GoPro, is going to cost a lot more than a more current Phantom 3, and the features of the drone and camera aren't going to be as good.

DJI dropped the prices on the Phantom 3 so much when the Phantom 4 came out that it don't make sense to piece it all together yourself when you can just get a high quality drone, high quality camera, and FPV setup for less than $500. The Phantom 3 Standard for < $500 will outperform anything you can mount a GoPro to for less than $1,000 and the Phantom 3 Professional for ~ $850 has a camera that will outperform basically every GoPro on the market, and you won't have to post-process out the fisheye effect from the final video.

Basically, it comes down to budget:

If you're happy with it then it's a good deal.

That said, it's hard to say anything objectively without knowing the state of the p3p. Are there problems with it? Are there cracks in the shell? etc, etc?

But, cheap batteries go for [around 112]
(http://amzn.to/1U87d9L) on Amazon at the moment while the cheapest P3P there is (new) about 831 (plus shipping), (links are aff links).

I was thinking amazon.com

But then I stumbled upon this beauty. - $600 for the full setup, can that be right?

u/ebaydan777 · 1 pointr/Multicopter

ya the 3 professional is only $900 right now on amazon...do these come with any cases or carry bags or not really

u/Berowulf · 1 pointr/drones

So I'm thinking $700-1,000 preferably, I'm fairly new with drones so I need something that is durable, with stable video, I was looking at the DJI 3 Professional, (DJI Phantom 3 Professional Quadcopter 4K UHD Video Camera Drone https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VSITBJO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pTqkDbXQQMNRN)
Would that be a good option? Or should I go with something else.

I also noticed the DJI Mavic Air is going on sale for prime day, would that be a good choice?
