Lots of patient practice and lube, and that's about it. I've been debating about getting one, to stretch out before a pegging session or just for enjoyment.
The largest plugs I own are a Doc Johnson Classic Large, and a glass "Sasha Grey" spade shaped plug. Both are 2.5" across.
It was really enjoyable working up to putting the Classic Large in. It took me about 3 weeks of trying every couple of nights, relaxing and slowly inserting it further and further. Finally one night, I took a deep breath, pushed a little harder, and it popped in. I love the first time I put it in, after I've not used it in a while. Those first few seconds its in, it feels like I'm cumming.
I'd like to get something even larger, but I can't find any plugs that are shaped normally that look comfortable to wear, that are 3-3.5" wide.
