I've recently got into crocheting because like you, I was looking for a cheap, yet fulfilling hobby. I'm not very good at it, but I've really enjoyed it so far! I looked into crochet because I wanted another thing to make sure I relax and keep my stress levels down. You can make SO MANY COOL THINGS. I don't think it used to be easy to get into, but now with all the beginners guides, sets, and video tutorials, it's much easier to try and learn.

I got this set of hooks because they are super comfortable to hold and come in a cheap kit. Starter yarn is also cheap to come by too, there are always sales bins at my local craft store. :)

I highly recommend you try it! It's a very rewarding hobby.

I am really enjoying it, I might have to make some more! They look so cool.

The hook came from this set I ordered on Amazon. They have kind of a hard/squishy/sticky feel to them, so they're not my favorite, but they keep my hand from cramping and were super cheap, so I'm happy with them. Plus, the case is super cute.

It's really personal preference. I have a set of Clover Soft Touch hooks which I love. My oldest daughters have this generic set, which seems to just be regular aluminum hooks with foam covers on the handles (hopefully permanently), and they're actually pretty comfortable too.

On the other hand, I bought a Clover Amour hook and didn't like it at all, but a lot of people here recommend it. I don't have any reason to believe they're bad hooks; they're just not for me.

The only ones I'd really warn you away from are the Addi Swing hooks and those wood handled ones you can buy at Hobby Lobby (I think it might be their store brand, but I'm not positive). Both broke for me almost immediately.
