I bought three of these for a road trip with two of my sons and all their electronic distractions and have not been disappointed with them at all. I bought one of these for each of them and they charge up completely in less than 4-5 hours. We would drive for 6 hours a day, they would play on their kindles and the switch and charge them off these powerbanks. I'd charge them back up at the hotels at night and repeat the next day. They lasted surprisingly well for two weeks of hard use and are still working just fine.

The EasyAcc or Anker battery packs would be much better. The 20K models can charge a smart phone like 6 times (charges my Galaxy S5 ~7 times), weigh less than a pound for 20K and below, have a built in flashlight, can charge like 4 devices at once, and you don't have to worry about replacing AA batteries, or have cheap cables / connections wrapped around elastic bands haha. And they take the same A/C power as your cell phone, so only need one charger for both.

And they cost like $30 - $40 for the 20K models. (example) Probably cheaper in the long run than stocking up (or replacing) rechargeables. Seems like a no brainer to me. OPs idea is fun, but it's kind of pointless with better options available.

If you charge the battery up fully before your trip you should be able to recharge your camera, iPod, and paperwhite at least twice before it runs out.

When I am not camping I usually put the panel and battery in my windshield to charge during the day.

I gave up on relying onto built-in batteries - just get yourself a batter bank and there is no need to compromise on phone quality.

Personally if there was any doubt about a product that will power your entertainment device on a trip, I'd get a highly recommended portable battery bank instead. You have Aukey, Anker, Amazon Basics, or EasyAcc (my personal favorite, last two products from them still really good almost a year later).

However if you don't wanna have a converter cable as well as a normal type-C on you, get this Anker one.

Both of the products that you mentioned look over-priced and over-specified.

If you limit yourself to 5V USB I recommend a 75 watt-hour battery ($37) for its dual inputs; it charges twice as fast as a normal battery. That should be sufficient to charge two cell phones, a small lamp ($4) and a fan ($17). You can charge the battery from a wall outlet, with a cigarette lighter USB adapter ($10), or with a small solar panel ($100).

You might prefer a Luci light ($15) to the lamp mentioned above; it charges itself from the sun and won't consume any of your battery capacity.

If you need 12 volts, I recommend a 185 watt-hour battery ($130), which will also charge a laptop computer. It recharges from a wall outlet, or you can use a 150 watt inverter ($24) from your cigarette lighter.

this has been my favorite one. 20k mAh, it has 2 ports to charge it with so it can charge really fast, and it has 4 hookups to charge other devices simultaneously. Pretty similar to the second one you posted.

The approach I'm taking on my Pi 3-based "field computer" project is to use a buck converter to supply constant 5V to a 20000mah battery pack, in turn being fed by a cheapo 12V 30A switching PSU. That battery pack can pump out more than enough current for my purposes, but for higher amperage loads you could simply inject USB power directly from the buck converter rails.

Total cost of approximately $30 is competitive with a quality 5V 10A AC adapter. The benefit with this setup over an adapter is that by skipping the PSU stage and feeding straight off the buck converter, I can run off of essentially any common DC source, including car and motorcycle batteries. Of course, if the input voltage isn't 12V, you'll have to dial it in with the buck converter, but that's a small price for the ability to tap into all those 18V power tool batteries and even 36V golf carts & wheelchairs.

Note that there are a BUNCH of those "DROK" brand converters on Amazon. Some are boost only, some buck only, others have both stages on the same board for greatly increased flexibility at the cost of some conversion efficiency. Watch the voltage and amperage specs, assume that any stated thresholds are optimistic, and plan to do thermal testing and add additional cooling if needed for your application. If you can find them, and they are getting hard to find, the MingHe D3806 is pretty much the best, and is actually the one I'm using.

Note also to take care with wire resistance! Most especially, be mindful not to end up with a design that's got all 6 amps flowing over some generic USB cable with 28 gauge 5v strands.

Basically your battery pack will only accept 2A as the maximum input, and your solar cells out up to 3.4 A at 5V (which is a weird number - USB devices are supposed to ask for how much current they want, otherwise they get something like 500 mA).

I've been using this. It charges in 6 hours and is reasonably priced. Charges an iPhone 6 times. You would need a usb c laptop to be charged by this brick. Laptop battery life depends on the laptop too... Typically 2 to 3x battery life.

I've only needed it once for my phone as I use it mainly for my work iPad but it charged at what I assume to be normal speed since it was done very quickly, I didn't time it though.

I like it quite a bit; on a full charge it can recharge 4 devices at once or one ~3.5 times. It also has a built in flashlight and can charge a device while being charged itself.

That's why I bought one of External Battery Pack My battery life was already really suspect, so it's an amazing purchase for this game and just a really good purchase in general. And I got it with 1day shipping on Prime.

I use this power bank with this usb-c cable and I haven't had any problems. The switch charges at a pretty normal rate compared to the official charger, and I haven't had any crashing, errors, or anything like that from using this pretty regularly since launch.

If you aren't planning on upgrading any of your current gear, I would try to get a power bank. I think anyone carrying a smart phone these days should have one. This helps even more if you use phone to order Uber or Lyft cars or travel at airport.

You're going to want a better charger than that, you need one that will last 4 days, so that will require >10,000 mili-amps of power. I use these, they can quick charge 2 phones at once, have 4 outlets as well.

I can choose alternative routes on my phone's GM. The fastest/best route is automatically chosen and is blue. Slower routes are grey, and you can tap them and start with those directions. Hope that helps.

Perhaps to remedy phone dying problem, print off directions ahead of time, or look into a portable power bank? I have this one which is hella overkill, but it charges my phone like 4-5 times before it dies. I wouldn't recommend leaving a battery in the car I guess, but if you usually have a purse or backpack, toss one in there.

Time does help though. I feel like all new drivers are nervous, but the extra step up with anxiety really makes it hard. I hope you're able to get more comfortable :(

I just bought this one EasyAcc Monster 20000mAh Power Bank and one of these iClever BoostCube 4.8A 24W Dual USB Travel Wall Charger.

The power bank has 2 inputs for recharging the battery pack, and with the wall charger I bought with it, it can be completely recharged in about 6 hours instead of the typical 10-12 hours a 20,000 mAh battery pack normally takes.

Also the output is up to 2.4A per port up to 4.8A total. Meaning that you could charge 2 devices simultaneously at 2.4A each, or 4 devices simultaneously at 1.2A each. Assuming your devices can accept a 2.4A input, but if not the power bank will automatically limit the output to whatever your device can handle.

I just bought one off of Amazon. When I record I just start the camera and walk away, do not like having to tend to it as I just record the whole time. I remove the battery from the GoPro. Average games take 2-3 hours, GoPro battery is about 1... So I remove the battery all together and plug it in. Removing the battery prevents the camera from actively charging and overheating.

Came here to say this, and I picked up the 20000mAh battery bank by EasyAcc. Cheaper than the anker version and havent had 1 issue with it. Saved my butt more times than I can count and recharges the gopro exceptionally fast.
