It is not the sound hole, it is that it is designed to not need an amp. Having said that, yes, a solid body electric would be much quieter, should not bother anybody else. If it is too quiet for you, you can always get a very small headphone amp. As for what to get, remember, you get what you pay for. A $100 acoustic uke is not the same as a $100 electric uke. The acoustic does not have any of the parts used to electrify the uke, so the quality of the other stuff goes down. Also, often the electric ukes use metal strings, so the feel is a bit different.
