All you need is a few sturdy wall studs 10+ feet apart, a drill, and maybe a stud finder.
Or you could just opt for a standard metal stand that you can find at WalMart or Home Depot or wherever. That should be long enough to get a decent hang, I think.
I bought this indoor hanging kit. Everyone says it works well. I just didn't know how difficult it would be to find a place to drill into. I intended to start to the right of the stud. My question is what kind of structural member could I be hitting at that location?

Just get a wall mounted indoor hanging kit. As far as damage, get some spackle and boom, easy repair.
