I've heard people had good experiences with the Essential dongle. That's an amazon link but it's not an affiliate link of any kind.

The dongle is currently $12 on Amazon. Order 3. Unfortunately, the PH-1 charger isn't listed on Amazon anymore. I bought 3 of each accessory, dongle/cam/charger, thinking this phone was going to last. I left it on the August update and on my desk. I got tired of the memory leak and moved onto the 7 Pro. I'm hanging onto the stuff just in case the PH-3 will be a usable phone.

I'm a fan of the Essential Phone adapter. I've used it on the Essential phone, OG Pixel XL, and Pixel 3 XL. Sounds great on all of them.

Will not include one, no, and since the one they sell on their website doesn't seem to be compatible with anything other than the 6T, I've asked around and been recommended the Essential adapter.

I have this DAC: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0769FFVF3/

$42

You can run USB into it, optical, and coax optical. It outputs at full line voltage to RCAs - that then plug into active speakers or an amp or preamp.

It also has headphone out.

If you are using IEMs with this, I would suggest something like a Topping NX1s as a buffer (that's what I do). I think this thing really likes higher impedance IEMs or headphones. So unless you are up at 300 to 600 ohms, it's going to sound flat.

The volume control only controls headphone volume, so you will need a preamp or passive volume control (or you can use your amp's volume control if it has one).

For USB 3 from your phone to IEM's - you can just run this: https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Phone-USB-C-Headphone-Adapter/dp/B079GZFWQ9/

Hope this helps!!! There's some cheaper DACS on Amazon - but I am not certain that there are any cheap ones that use the NE5532 opamps, like this one does. Also, since it uses 5532s (and they are standard pin arrangement), that means you can roll op amps, if you want a different sound to your IEMs.

I did a dongle roundup over here that you might be interested in: https://www.reddit.com/r/essential/comments/9urism/ph1_35mm_dongle_roundup_google_apple_oneplus_more/

copy/pasted for your convenience:

Dongle|Works|Price|Comments
:--|:--|:--|:--
Razer|Yes|$20|Very good
Google (updated)|Yes|$12|Very good
Google (old)|Yes|$9 discontinued|Very good
Essential (black/white)|Yes|$15|Very good
Apple|Kinda|$9|Left channel is good but right channel is soft. This behavior is specific to the PH-1. Pixel & OnePlus do not have this problem. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend this dongle for the PH-1. Apparently a 4-wire 3.5mm jack solves this problem.
OnePlus|No|$?|This does not work with a PH-1 nor a Pixel. The device continues playing audio out the phone speakers and never successfully plays anything over the dongle. As far as I can tell, OP doesn't sell this by itself at this time - it's only bundled with a OnePlus 6T phone.
