  1. Yes. Extra underwear is nicer than extra v-necks though. If you want to bring more than 3 v-necks, you could wear an extra one under your shirt to save room in your bag.
  2. Yes you can and it's not a bad idea. They're either crew or mid-calf length. I bought extra at the exchange, brand was Pro-Feet and MUCH more comfortable than the socks you're issued.
  3. Just bring your SS card and license.
  4. Yes but if you're going carry-on, there's a limit to the size.
  5. One bag only. I'd recommend using a different bag from the CG duffel bag. I didn't even get one from my recruiter (which I'm glad I didn't) because nearly every other person used theirs and had a hard time finding it. I got an Everest duffel bag off Amazon, $14, great bag and I'm still using it. Red and blue are cheap right now and will stand out. Mine was black so I tied a red bandana and a name tag on.
  6. Only the extra toiletries I kept in the personal ditty bag. You'll get a toiletry bag full of stuff that you'll keep in your rack for "quick" access.
  7. Not necessary but I did see people with these zip up pouch kits for writing letters. I know they can be bought at the exchange, it looked handy and organized. Maybe look into those. Bring some stamps with you too. Do not write letters in the notebook they issue you.
  8. Not necessary. You'll wash your civilian clothes the second day before storing them. Maybe just bring a spare shirt, socks, and underwear for the night at MEPS, that's what I did. I wore the same pants.
  9. I'd recommend carry-on. It was my first time flying and my flight ended up being delayed for 5 hours and had to run through Philly airport to the USO, last ones to arrive and showed up late to Cape May. Going carry-on saved a lot of hassle. Razors will be no problem as long as they're packaged in some way. IMPORTANT: Make sure your packages of razors are easy to get into, maybe take a knife and cut a slice into the package before packing your bag. At Cape May they make you spread out everything in your bag on a table and I had to bite my way into a blister package of razors because there are no scissors or knives to use.

Also here's a nice bit of info: I had a shipmate who got through TSA fine with his double edge/safety razor and package of individual blades. TSA only made him throw out the one razor that wasn't packaged. When our belongings were being inspected at Cape May, a CC said it was fine for him to keep and use.

Hope this info helps. Try not to overload your bag; bring cash or a debit card to buy things from the exchange (you'll be brought there pretty early on to buy things you need) as well as the Lucky Bag (thrift store for uniforms/clothing).

When I was at the exchange, I bought an extra toothbrush, shaving cream, socks, and a towel as well as some other things I needed. I also bought a new pair of PF gear but wasn't aware that I could buy the same PF gear for like $5 at the lucky bag so keep that in mind. Definitely buy an extra PF roll from the Lucky Bag. Some people also bought an extra cover (hat). Not a bad idea.

Good luck at boot camp! Be quick and loud. Help your shipmates when you can. Always keep your rack locked. Always, always. Learn the chain of command as early as possible, there's lots of valuable time to use to study while waiting around the first week.
