I've heard the base EVGA model for this card has heatsink issues. Go with the SuperClocked model https://www.amazon.ca/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-03G-P4-6162-KR/dp/B01KU2CIIY/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1506275839&sr=8-3-fkmr1&keywords=1060+3gb+superclocked, it's 277$ on amazon. Higher clock speed and better heat sink.

Sub $200? What about the $199 gtx 1060 3gb?

u/magkliarn · 4 pointsr/nvidia

What kind of games are you planning to play? A 1060 will be an improvement over the 750 no matter what, but for CPU intensive games like GTA/Witcher you are going to be pretty severely bottlenecked by that CPU.

Anyway, if you decide to buy one I'd definitely recommend the SC model instead - same price, same dimensions but much better cooling. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KU2CIIY/ref=psdc_284822_t2_B01MF7EQJZ?th=1

I'll leave the PSU recommendations for the US folks.

u/StealthRogue · 3 pointsr/buildapcforme

Yes. you are spending about $30-50 more for the GTX 1060 3GB and you are getting a lot more performance. I don't recommend getting the 6GB version as it has been affected a lot by crypto mining (more VRAM = better for crypto mining, therefore, increased the price). You need to pay about $80-100 more for the 6GB version and you are getting a 5-10 FPS difference which is honestly not that great for the value. If you want to upgrade from the 1060 3GB I'd just recommend going for the GTX 1070 but the prices are still very high for the 1060 6GB GPUS and up.

[Click this] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqSV2cE4TT8) to see a video comparing the GTX 1050TI and GTX 1060 3GB

[GTX 1050TI 4GB] (https://www.amazon.com/Geforce-1050Ti-Graphics-STRIX-GTX1050TI-O4G-GAMING-Graphic/dp/B01MG9AKKZ?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-d-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B01MG9AKKZ) is $184.99

[GTX1060 3GB] (https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-03G-P4-6162-KR/dp/B01KU2CIIY/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1510798848&sr=1-3&keywords=gtx+1060+3gb&dpID=51iuKmXAjbL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch) is $189.99

I think it is clear spending $5 more is better considering you're getting a 10-20 FPS difference in games.

Looks like it was, then amazon ran out of stock:

What would be the reason to get this gtx 1060 (dual fan) as opposed to this one (single fan)? About the same price and I have some credit at best buy

u/FenixOokami · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'll go down the list of what you have:

CPU: You wont be able to upgrade this CPU with a recent model without upgrading the motherboard itself. This would result in a pretty hefty investment for a relatively little boost to gaming performance.

GPU: The R9 280 was a fairly beefy card for its time, meaning that it has a high power draw, much higher than a mid-end graphics card of today. An Nvidia GTX 1060 3gb would give you the most bang for your buck in the current market. The newer technology in it would mean much better performance at a lower power draw, (and lower power draw leads to lower heat generation)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01KU2CIIY/ref=olp_twister_child?ie=UTF8&mv_size_name=0&mv_style_name=4

Mobo: Nothing much I can say on this. it gets the job done and can support modern graphics cards. it wont support current gen AMD CPUs though.

RAM: 8GB is plenty, and you can wait to upgrade until RAM prices come back down

PSU: With a 550W power supply, you're in fairly good shape. Honestly, I feel it's more of an aging/natural wear and tear issue than obsolescence.

Case: It is a solid case with enough airflow to not cause your GPU to melt. You can monitor the GPU temperatures and if you feel that it's thermal throttling or getting too close to it, you can move to case with more airflow.

Honestly I would swap out the GTX 1050ti with a 3gb 1060. Right now you can get a 1060 for around $250 and it would be a huge step up from the 1050ti. Plus it should run most games on high at 60+ fps. Other than that, it looks like a great budget build!

Here's a link to the one my buddy just bought -

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-GAMING-Support-03G-P4-6162-KR/dp/B01KU2CIIY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526913904&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+1060+3gb

u/sovereign007 · 2 pointsr/eGPU

Take a look below for GTX1060 minis, in both 3 and 6GB versions. Zotac tends to be the cheapest and is a decent choice. CPU bottlenecks are little unpredictable because it depends very much on the CPU utilization of the game in question, as well as the resolution you plan to play at (the higher, the more work the GPU has, so the less a CPU bottleneck affects things because the GPU has more work to do per frame, giving more time for the CPU to feed more data for the next one).

GTX1060 mini #1, GTX1060 mini #2, GTX1060 mini #3.

u/Freeznips · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

This is extremely difficult on your budget. I would highly suggest opening up to used parts. Specifically, the Dell Optiplex. Pair that up with a 1060 3gb and you're in business. That leaves you $250 for a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. This may not look fancy, have a window, or ssd. BUT, it will play the shit out of games at a very reasonable price.

If you cant find a psu/1tb hdd for under $100 there's something wrong, the Dell I cannot link, you can buy a used missing HDD (don't need) for $79.99 or a refurb for $110 (Google Dell optifine 790 i5) its an online listing and automod killed my last post. If you honestly cannot find a psu/hdd here's a sub $50 1TB HDD via pcpartpicker, don't know the wattage but 500 watts should do you for $34.99 500 not enough? How about 620 for a few dollars more that will easily run the pc.

Ram is cheap, a full $80 for 16 gb

Edit: forgot the GPU, current price for the budget build? $225.89 Amazon, gtx 1660 3gb or you could improve your performance by a lot and upgrade for $70 more to the 6gb version. This is CURRENT PRICES at a comparable price to the xbox.

u/DB9PRO · 1 pointr/buildapc

Right now because of the mining situation cards have gone up in price. However, I still don't think it's bad for the price point, especially since miners hit AMD card prices more than Nvidia. If you want something significantly better you would need to shell out a lot more money.

I just installed it so I can't tell you about performance just yet, but /u/ryebread761 has the same card as me and he plays CSGO often so you should ask him.

This is the card I have.

Which component of my computer is most restricting the ability of the rest of my computer for high fps gaming at 1080p resolution? Bottle necking question. I've been looking at upgrading the CPU but wonder if that is the most practical purchase at this point.

u/Fluroxlad · 1 pointr/buildapc

Consider getting a 1060 instead of a 1050 ti. It is better to upgrade your gpu more than your cpu for gaming as the gpu does most of the work.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01KU2CIIY/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1502923908&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=1060&dpPl=1&dpID=51iuKmXAjbL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1

I would get this gpu, a ryzen 3 1200 or a r5 1400 if you can afford it (that would be best), 8 GB (2666mhz or faster) of ram and a b350 motherboard for the best gaming performance

I know you said €500 but maybe you can afford this? https://es.pcpartpicker.com/list/LTxNCy this will be great upgrade maybe you can sell your old parts to help afford the new ones?

u/Titan285k · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

Your best option is a 980 if you can find one for $200. Next best thing would be a 970 for $150 - $170

Edit: If you can, try to get this 1060 3GB if you want a new card $196 before tax on amazon

u/renatofontes · 1 pointr/buildapc

Dude, any chance you could order this card?

It is from Mexican amazon, for some reason the ones in amazon us are more expensive. (first time this ever happened).

I actually bought a ryzen 5 1600 and that card yesterday. The 3gb 1060 should be only about 5% less powerful than the 6gb version in 1080p graphics.

It is more expensive than the 2400g but you would get a much better machine IMHO.

Also, like the others said... you do need a cpu to be able to update the firmware to support the 2400g.

You could also try buying an already built pc. PC vendors aren't allowed to mark up their graphics cards so if you buy an already built machine it could be way less expensive than building one yourself.

Edit:

Just tried ordering the 1060 I linked with a US address and it wasn't possible. :(

You could try it out anyway, or maybe use a courier service.

I have been trying to decide whether to get a 480, 580, 1060, or splurge for a 1070. I couldn't decide where the cutoff point should be in the spend just a little more for a better card.

Well now a gap has appeared in the pricing and nothing better is currently close in price to this. Even the 6gb version is nearly $100 more than this.

So I bought this and I feel good.

Anyone think I'll care that this is slightly slower than the SC version that is on Amazon right now? I can't imagine that's worth $20 extra after rebate when I'm broke anyway.

u/zune127 · 1 pointr/buildapc

It is possible to run the GPU externally, but it would require adapters and such. That's a hassle. Why would you want to do that?

Just get a mini gtx 1060; they're usually cheaper anyway, and they'll fit in most cases.

Here's one for $172 (3gb model)

So I'm looking at parts, and I think I'm leaning between these two:

EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti SC (@ $184.99) and EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (@ $222.89)

There's a few differences based on the comparison at the bottom of the 1060's webpage.
The 1050 has 4GB compared to the 1060's 3GB.
The 1050 supposedly has a clock speed of 7,010 MHz vs the 1060's clock speed of 1,607 MHz, this just doesn't seem right?

What exactly is better about the 1060? Because right now I'm leaning towards the 1050.

u/GigaGZPH · 1 pointr/buildapc

Does this machine will be able to
handle this card? (Or should I get the standard non-superclocked one)
PS: I am currently using the stock CPU cooler (the fan the comes in the box). Thank you so much! Seriously!

u/brock_h · 0 pointsr/buildapc

Agree. For budget gaming builds it is better to go with a cheaper processor and better graphics card. A 1060 is going to be a huge difference in comparison to a 1050 Ti which, at least IMO, is shit. GPU prices are high at the moment, and the new Ryzen processors are great deals and are enabling people to get away with spending less on CPUs to compensate.

[EDIT] There are better deals available on a 1060 3GB though. Like here and here and others available on PCPartPicker. There's also a bunch on Jet which usually has a promo code for 15% off for new users which would put the price around $180 $190-200 (max discount is apparently $20).

Also someone downvoted me for providing cheaper options? Seriously?

u/hideyodag · 0 pointsr/buildapc

I believe even the 3gb model of the 1060 outperforms the RX 480 at the same price.
