They also do a horrible job at not only preventing the scalping of items, but actively promoting scalping and bot-sell vendors preying on people by instantly buying up new products and creating artificial scarcity. In the last few years I have seen Amazon turn into eBay where there is zero regulation on price gouging or even attempting to promote ethical sales practices. Meanwhile, companies that are trying to promote their products have to scramble to do damage control on the slough of negative reviews resulting from people upset at scalpers and giving 1 star reviews. Customers shouldn't do this as most don't realize that these companies have no control over re-sale or post MSRP price hikes and that the companies play no part in this shady practice, but the damage has already been done.

A good recent example is EVGA doing damage control on 1 star reviews that are flooding the new GTX 1080 flagship line.

The EVGA Founders Edition is currently on sale right this minute: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Founders-Graphics-08G-P4-6180-KR/dp/B01FWI6F08?ie=UTF8&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&ref_=olp_product_details

Personally, I would get an EVGA GTX 1080 SC or FTW model because their customer service is one of the better ones.

If you all can wait 7 days, Amazon will be restocking these for $699.99. Is having warranty worth the extra $10? Sure is.

Its always like this, every single time since beginning of time. This is completely normal. They dont make a million of them before selling them, they sell/ship them as they make them. Over time the production ramps up and demand goes down.

About 2 weeks after launch the supply chain will stabilize and they will be in stock everywhere. Its already starting to stabilize. It took about 12 hours for Nvidia store to go out of stock today. It was basically available all day long. PNY was also, and looks like still is available - http://pny.com/geforce-gtx-1080-founders-edition?sku=VCGGTX10808PB-CG
its only been a week. I imagine a week from today 1080 will be available no problem from many retailers without going out of stock. 1070 will go through the same cadence though.

EDIT - Amazon has it going in and out of stock for $699, but when it runs out its repllaced by non amazon ones for $800 - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FWI6F08/ so if its showing the 800$ one check back in 30 min or so, Amazon keeps adding stock once they sell out every 30 min or so.

As far as partner cards, those typically come 2 to 4 weeks after Reference (FE) ones come out. So for those look for Mid June to mid July.

He ment don't be a scalper that takes all the early cards and puts them up for ridcuolous price.

You can be whatever you want to be but if you really are interested in getting the cards, investing an hour or two of your life in trying to get them isn't a huge tradeoff, and if you really concider buying this card but walking to the store is the biggest obstacle, I'd say you should rather just wait for the AIB cards that will perform better than the FE ones and buy them when theres plenty in stock as it seems you have no problem waiting for it.

This is the same GPU right?

Just bought a 4K TV, GTX 970 can't handle all games in 4K. Decided to return it for refund (is the deal still on the table?) and upgrade to a GTX 1080.

Anyway, when is the perfect time to return so that I can have money by Cyber Monday or Black Friday? Also, do I have to adjust my PC to a certain setting to use the integrated Intel graphic card?

Also, what is the difference between the gajillion types of GTX 1080s? eg this¹, this², and this³.

Finally, is Zotac good? Or is it better to spend a bit more for the more popular brands? Good?. What about this?

  1. When's the best time to return so that I'd have the money by Cyber Monday?
  2. How can I switch to Intel graphics so that I can use the PC without any graphic card?
  3. What's the difference between the aforementioned types of GPUs?
  4. Can you recommend Zotac?

Edit: Here's my build. Is there any particular GPU you can recommend based on it? Any notes on the upgrade?

Are all GTX 1080 the same. Looking at amazon to get one but is this lower priced one the same as the higher end ones. Am i safe to assume that i would be paying 200 more for a few fps more?

Price has dropped since release, GTX 1080 8GB 1733mhz clock founder's edition766$. GTX 1080 8GB 1860mhz clock 760$. Base version blower GTX 1080 8GB 1733mhz clock 660$.

No idea why the higher clock speed is cheaper, might be because the first one is a Founders.

Anyways, price was just inflated in Canada due to demand, it has since gone back to regular prices across the board.

u/thefallinleaf · 1 pointr/buildapc

Two choices for fan types, blower style like this:

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Founders-Graphics-08G-P4-6180-KR/dp/B01FWI6F08

and double/triple fan designs like this:

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-GAMING-Support-08G-P4-5173-KR/dp/B01KVZBNY0/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_147_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=RGJTQJW5GJ7CARMZ911Q

Blower style is "reference" / factory, they run hotter and louder compared to their open air / "aftermarket" (the double fan) design. The aftermarkets are made by Add In Board partners like EVGA, MSI, etc.

OC is just the clock speed that the card is promised to hit. It's the same for CPUs, no one knows how far a component can go. There's also thermals to consider, but generally, all components can OC a little.

Other considerations would be fan bearings / warranty / return process / customer support / build quality. EVGA and Sapphire are the best.

And cost :D

u/martindm03 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yeah avoid anything with the reference cooler. The reference cooler will look similar to this with the tiny single turbine fan. They're usually pretty loud, so get something with a couple big fans.

u/augusteen · 1 pointr/buildapc

This or that?

obviously the 1080 would give a better performance, but which is more worth its money?

u/KyleChief · 1 pointr/buildapc

Build is fine, but you really need to knuckle down on pricing. Could probably save at least $1000 if you tried.

Ok, I went almost $30 over the maximum, but IMO this is the best you can get at this range. I included the 6600K since it's such a good value when comparing it to all the other models and the features they come with while addressing your uncertainty on whether or not to overclock; I'm giving you the option.

The motherboard supports up to 2-way Crossfire for adding a second one later on but no SLI support I'm afraid, for some reason it comes with a hefty price premium, same goes for G-Sync panels.

You can remove the CD drive if you already have another one or search for another Windows 10 installation in USB 3.0 form, though it ends up being more expensive.

The monitor has DisplayPort input for 1080p144Hz and FreeSync (which is basically G-Sync but for AMD GPUs), which eliminates tearing in games.

One more thing: I can't recommend any Nvidia GPU at the moment, they are way out of this build's budget and the prices are ridiculously inflated for both the GTX 1080/1070 and any version (example1, example2, the customer reviews also reflect the current situation), I can't say why but maybe it's because of very high demand/little supply or basically no competition at that price point.

Besides, the RX 480 will come out on June 29th, bringing near-GTX 980 performance and by then the prices will hopefully be on par with what I put here for the 8GB model (to eliminate any future issues that the 4GB version might have).

ehh, let's see ...

$1000 budget, well you could get a cheap desk + chair combo at Ikea and a proper desktop. But since you want to use your core, you want to get a gtx 1080 + core, I found this at amazon. It can run 2k and even 4k comfortably and VR

So It sounds like your saying either get something like this: [EVGA GeForce GTX 1080] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FWI6F08/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_L.bLxbV9QR6QG) or possibly, or settle for 4K @ 30hz. Is that correct?

What if I just bumped it up to [MSI GeForce GTX 980 GDDR5 4GB OC] (https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GAMING-GTX-980-4G/dp/B00OD38516/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1469325765&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+980)? Could I feasibly use 4k @ 60hz?

u/Rustybot · 0 pointsr/Games

At some point we need to have a discussion as a community about what price we use when we talk about graphics cards and equivalence & power/$.

AMD RX 480 MSRP Pricing

The AMD RX 480 reference card is MSRP'ed to retailers at

  • Any brand reference - 4GB: $199 MSRP
  • Any brand reference - 8GB: $240 New
  • XFX Overclocked- 8GB: $270 New

    (Sources: NewEggBusiness.com)

Now these MSRP selling points are not the "price" of the card, only the MSRP used for retailers. The market rate price on amazon, etc, which is controlled by supply and demand and free market pricing, is a much different story. Cards sold at MSRP are purchased and resold on the free market unless this 'arbitrage' is controlled. Currently AMD does not enforce any MAP or other price controls on stores.

    AMD RX 480 Market Pricing:

  • Any brand reference - 4GB: $? Note: Impossible to find this card for sale!
  • XFX reference - 8GB: $375 Amazon
    Amazon
  • Any brand reference, not XFX - 8GB: $325 New Amazon $375 'Used' Amazon marketplace
  • XFX OC - 8GB: $370 Amazon -

Note how the OC XFX has elevated the cost of the stock XFX card even though it is functionally the same as the Sapphire/MSI etc stock reference cards. Demand and pricing don't follow logical feature comparisons.

Let's pull in the Nvidia cards share we?

    GTX 1080

  • Any brand founders reference - GTX 1080: $699 MSRP NVIDIA
  • PNY Founders reference - GTX 1080: MSRP $699 New Amazon
  • EVGA Founders reference - GTX 1080: $830 New Amazon
  • MSI Founders reference - GTX 1080: $850 New Amazon
  • MSI GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING - OC: $775 New Amazon

    GTX 1070:

  • ASUS Founders reference - GTX 1070: $525 New Amazon
  • ASUS overclock - GTX 1070: $449 New Amazon

    GTX 1060:

  • Any brand reference - GTX 1060: $299 MSRP NVIDIA

    Conclusion:

    *edit:
If the price vs MSRP for other cards is any indication, it is reasonable to expect the 1060 to retail significantly over the $299 asking price post launch, maybe $350 or higher. Then it becomes a question of value and how the 1060 will effect the market demand for the RX 480. If the OC versions of the RX 480 are on the market and maintain the same or lower prices as currently($325-$375) then the value/$ of the RX 480 is still higher than the 1060's likely real world results.

Here's my quick build on it, not perusing for price savings. I could probably shave a few hundred off (i.e. going for air cooling instead of liquid), but if I were going to build one for me, this is how I'd do it. Cost ended up being about on par (~$2,850) for a more powerful machine (GTX1080 > Radeon Pro 580)

Case - $49.99

CPU - $295.00

Motherboard - $114.99

RAM - $126.99

PSU - $129.67

GPU - $576.62

Storage - $139.50

Liquid cooling - $107.99

Display - $1,299.99

Total:
$2840.74

Ways to shave some off -
Look at other monitors, I didn't really hunt too much here as I'm not an expert in that field, so I just looked for a "true" color 5k. I think HP's would fit that bill at around $900 (so $400 cheaper), but I could be wrong, so I went with the more pricey one.

Go with the GTX1070 (saves about $100) or the GTX1060 (saves about $300).

Nix liquid cooling and just go with air cooled (save $107.99)

Which puts a "budget" build of this at ~$2,400, $2,000 if the HP monitor works. Plus, since it's all on Amazon, if you have their store card, -5%, so, that puts us at ~$2280 (-400 if the HP monitor fits the bill) for the budget build and $2,698.70 (-400 if the HP monitor counts) for how I'd actually build it if I were doing it for me.
