Unfortunately amazon in Canada is sparse for good deals on computer components. To put it simply I've bought 1 computer component, an evga 760 dual superclocked for 230$ 1 year ago. That's how rare it is to find better pricing than the top 5 CDN stores.

I have amazon prime for other reasons than the free 2 day shipping and it's fantastic, but recently got premier from newegg and it has paid itself off faster in the span of 3 weeks. With their over priced shipping it made their good deals weak, but the free shipping is great and their sales back to strong.

Ncix recently moving to free shipping for a ton more items has been very attractive as well. I've almost split my purchases for electronic/computer parts to 50% newegg / 30% ncix / 10% Canada computers / 5% futureshop / 5% other

number 2 has a proprietary cooler on it.

edit: here is the number 2 for cheaper http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DHW4HXY/?tag=pcpapi-20

u/Tallest_Waldo · 3 pointsr/Borderlands2

I just bought this one, and BL2 is now locked at a buttery 60 frames per second at max graphics and PhysX settings.

*edit: I REALLY recommend sticking with nVidia, especially if BL2 is your main game. PhysX, in my opinion, adds a whole level of immersion.

Ow that formatting..

If you want to overclock get a i5-4690k and a Z97 motherboard.

If you don't want to overclock, get a cheaper H97/H87/B85 motherboard instead.

You do not need watercooling for that graphic card. Though you should really get THIS instead.

u/Diapernator · 3 pointsr/buildapc

What is the difference, if any, between these? I think one thing would be the particular fan/cooling system used, but do any of these stand out as "the best one"? Or is this a case of same shit, different pile?

if you want cheap, grab a basic 750ti or a used EVGA 760 SC

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DHW4HXY/

I got that used 760 and it was literally just plug and play with the exception of proper scaling needing the nvidia web drivers but those were as easy as finding the ones for my build of el cap and double clicking to install that package.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'm installing a new EVGA 760 tonight and taking out my ASUS 460.

What do I need to do to make this as painless as possible?

I'd like to see which brick and mortar stores were complaining. When I buy computer components, I don't have much of a selection here. That is unless I want to pay $40 more for the same component.

First off, thank you a ton. I asked a friend of mine to look at the build (sorry, but I like to check things :P, I'm paranoid), and he said it looks great. I was curious though if you had the time to verify a few things for me. I couldn't find a few of the things you had suggested so I checked on some other things... Could you verify that they are just as usable for me please?

Hey, so looking to get a new GPU but not sure if that's the main problem... I got a new game "Planet Coaster" which I love, however I'm getting some hitching and freezes that is making it pretty annoying.

I currently have a 2 year old card, this one here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DHW4HXY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Which I'm kinda thinking about switching out for a higher one. I'm not a computer "expert" however, I thought it would be a decent buy. It maybe went a year before it started "struggling" with games. Now it does 1280x720 at ~30 fps... I just feel like I've done something wrong or I'm missing something.

I have an intel i5 6300 3.50 Ghz cpu, SSD and 20 GB of RAM. Yet it sounds like a jet engine when running anything on medium... and you can just forget high or ultra.

Is it really the graphics card? Or something else?

u/KronosKoderS · 1 pointr/buildapc

Ya I had my eye on this one. But what makes it so special?

u/JustNilt · 1 pointr/buildapc

Links says HP was unable to find the page you wanted. That said, the GT620 you have is a PCI Express 2.0 card and that's what your motherboard supports, while the newer cards are PCI Express 3.0. They'll often work in a lower speed slot, but you may sacrifice a certain amount of performance at the highest end. Frankly, I doubt you'd ever hit that since you'd be CPU bound before that in any modern game.

I'd certainly upgrade the PSU to a 500 watt (I like SeaSonics myself), since that's the minimum for those cards. The new PSU should come with an appropriate power connection for the video card, too.

Personally, I'd stick with an NVidia card since that's what you have now. That way you know there aren't likely to be driver conflicts, a not terribly uncommon issue with HP systems. Here are a couple starting options for you: Power supply and video card

You can find the same PSU on NewEgg for a few bucks cheaper, but the one I linked comes direct form the manufacturer, so it's going to have all the connectors, etc. Looks like the special on the video card is the same on NewEgg as well, but I'd tend to buy form one source if possible. That's just me.

Good luck!

u/_heisenberg__ · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thanks for the reply :)

To answer you questions:

  • I don't plan on over clocking
  • I don't plan on using two graphics cards
  • The highest resolution I'll be going is 1920 X 1080

I'm happy you asked if I would be over clocking as I feel like that would play a major role in what I pick. I have almost no experience with motherboards, so I was unsure as to what to pick for that.

As for the video card, what about something along the lines of this?
u/michelevit · 1 pointr/buildapc

for reals? i just bought this card from amazon.com for $260. Should I box it up and return it. I'd like to be able to play GTA V when it is released this year. Are prices going to bottom on the GTX760? Is there going to be a better model in the 250ish price range?

What's the going rate for a GTX 760 ACX Superclocked?

u/jecowa · 1 pointr/buildapc

You used the word next gen, so I thought that you might be worried about the upcoming PS4 and XboxOne. We don't know the exact specs of the AMD APU CPU that will be used in the PS4 and XboxOne, but based on current AMD APUs, the Intel i5-4670K will probably be at least 75% faster than the AMD APU going in both those gaming consoles.

But the CPU isn't the most important thing for gaming performance. The most important thing for gaming performance is the graphics card. The following graphics cards are ranked by both performance and price:

u/khrawn · 1 pointr/buildapc

About the CPU and the cores, maybe the other 2 cores are disabled in the BIOs, though i have no idea whether that's actually possible. You can try and download CPU-Z and see what it says, it's better than Speccy, but only for CPU and ram, not so much for everything else. It's quite weird it shows as only having 2 cores though.. But nice to see the temperature!

About the PSU, on the side of it it should say the name/wattage of the psu, something like Corsair 450W or XFX 500W or something like that. The wattage should be on a sticker as a minimum on the PSU. For the cords, you will need to find out what your GPU needs. For example this:

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Superclock-Dual-Link-Graphics-02G-P4-3753-KR/dp/B00IDG3IDO/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1414526655&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+750

does not require any external power, it gets all the power it needs from the PCIe port, while this:

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperClocked-Dual-Link-Graphics-02G-P4-2765-KR/dp/B00DHW4HXY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1414526795&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+760

requires both a 6 pin and a 8 pin connecter.

http://tech-reviews.co.uk/images/reviews/silencer/large/silencer11.jpg

The connector on the left is a standard 6 pin connector. The one on the right is a 6+2 pin connector, so it works as a 6 pin, but also as a 8 pin. The 6+2 is standard on most newer PSU's, but i have no idea about the older ones. You can however get a Molex to GPU power connector, which looks like this:

http://www.systemagnostic.com/wp-uploads/2013/01/molex_pci-e.jpg

Though i have not had much luck with the adapters, a lot of people use them.

Also, about having enough wattage, as long as you are only running 1 graphics card, 400W is enough for most current midend GPU's while you want 500W for a high end GPU. If you are not sure, then you can find the GPU on the manufactures webpage and see what they recommend. Often having 100W less than what they recommend isn't a problem, but depends on the rest of your system too.

u/DavidSSD · 1 pointr/buildapc

Would you ever consider an Nvidia GPU

u/ben-the-dev · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I would go with a cheaper CPU. I don't know if you want to go as low as an i3, but I have a 3.4 GHz i3-4130 and it is decent. If I were you, I'd go with a cheaper CPU (this one is a dual-core i3), get a better GPU (GTX 760) and an SSD. I would also recommend GIGABYTE motherboards, specifically this one. You might also want to look into getting a higher wattage PSU, especially if you think you'll want to upgrade your GPU down the line.

Finally, if you have some cash in your budget left over, I'd definitely up that RAM to 12 or 16 GB. It's not imperative, especially with an SSD, but you'll find that you can have a lot more stuff open in the background, not that you would need to.

Whatever you decide to buy, make sure you are very careful installing your processor. If any of the pins on the motherboard get bent, you'll need a whole new motherboard.

TL;DR: Spend less on CPU, more on GPU, try a GIGABYTE motherboard, and get an SSD. Higher wattage PSU and more RAM if you can afford. Be careful with your motherboard.

u/TheMXL · 1 pointr/buildapc

While a better power supply that has the connectors from the start is generally preferred, this should still work as long as you arent overclocking your CPU heavily.

u/clandestine801 · 1 pointr/PC_Builders

I just re-read your post. Apologies I did misinterpret what you meant. So it seems you want to get the best out of LoL with a good graphics card. That shouldn't be a problem considering that, as mentioned above, it is hardly intensive and difficult to run.

Seeing as the H97 doesn't support DDR4 RAM, then out of $230, you'll be getting DDR3 RAM which are pretty cheap nowadays.

I compiled a list of the parts that you have now and added RAM + Storage. Take a look yourself:

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/VFGk6X

Note that the 8GB of DDR3-2400 RAM as opposed to your 8GB of 1600MHz RAM on top of the 1TB Seagate HDD both add up to a bit under $100. So that left you with about $130-135 give or take for your graphics card.

The GPU isn't included in the list because they don't have price listings on the site for GPUs suiting that price.
But I did search on Amazon and found a few for you listed below.

If you're willing to push the budget a bit and throw in a few more bucks you can go with this:
$145 GTX 950

Or you can stay within the budget and stick with less powerful GTX 750 Ti:
[PNY XLR8 GTX 750 Ti](https://www.amazon.com/PNY-GeForce-GDDR5-Graphics-VCGGTX750T2XPB/dp/B00IGHD876/ref=sr_1_11?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1469560571&sr=1-
11&keywords=gtx+760&refinements=p_36%3A10000-15000)

MSi GTX 750 Ti

And if you're fine with buying used products that deliver more power than both of the graphics cards mentioned above:
GTX 760 Superclocked

I don't know what graphics card you're packing right now. So the ones I picked out may not be comparable to whatever you currently have. Hope this helps you out a bit though!

Thanks, I had the same question and this was pretty helpful. Although on the American Amazon, comparing the two EVGA versions (750 Ti vs 760), it's more of a $100 difference. Aside from the better performance, I'm trying to figure out if that's worth the extra $100. One the one hand, I like how the 760 can do SLI, which might be nice in the future if I ever get a second graphics card. But on the other hand, the 750 Ti doesn't use any power from the PSU, just the motherboard, which is pretty convenient. Are there any other major differences or considerations I should think about? I'm still a bit new with trying to build my own computer and it's still a little difficult finding the right parts.
