If you haven't already I would suggest picking up a copy of Feast by Sarah Copeland! I've heard good things about Plenty also but haven't had a chance to get that one yet.

I would also recommend Broad Fork and Nopi!

So I'm going vegan now (It's difficult to change your diet in a radical fashion when you're dependent on others for food) but I started out just going vegetarian. Basically the way that I was able to get to where I am now was that I learned to cook delicious vegetarian meals for my family (took a semester off of college and cooked most nights) with the Feast cookbook and other recipe sources such as foodgawker. My parents were resistant at first and of course I got shit on and made fun of but eventually they realized:

  • the meals I was cooking were more delicious than their meals before
  • they felt better and had more energy, lost weight, etc.

Now they're vegetarian by their own motivation. We were the typical American family eating meat for practically every meal. I'm in between schools right now living at home again so I'm going to cook vegan meals most nights >:)

    Good luck, pal!
