I don't hate movie covers per se, but I do hate when a movie cover (or otherwise) replaces a beautiful, artistic cover. For me a book is 90% its content, but the other 10% is in its presentation. Case in point, with The Lord of the Rings I love Tolkein's art that adorns this hardcover version, and I'll avoid even this or this version.
Also, it has nothing to do with what people think of me, and everything to do with me obsessing with my collection aesthetics.
Those are basically the covers Tolkien designed himself. Here's the actual ones (hardcover) if anyone wants them:
The Fellowship of the Ring
The Two Towers
The Return of the King
I had the same issue in january, I wanted to buy a "complete" collection of Tolkiens books but box sets mostly don
t contain everything I wanted and the nice ones are really expensive...

I decided to buy the Harper Collins Anniversary editions (as mentioned in your other post) because they had every book I wanted in a similar size and spine layout. It
s not the cheapest way to get all of them but the most satisfying for me... Also by far not the most expensive editions. The books I got:
Fellowship of the Ring
Two Towers
Return of the King
Hobbit
History of the Hobbit: Mr. Baggins
History of the Hobbit: Return to Bag End
Simarillion
Unfinished Tales
This is a picture of them I found online, missing the second History of the Hobbit book and an one extra, but you get the idea of how they look: Link
I hope this is some help or at least a bit interesting
The separate copies of Fellowship, Two Towers, and Return of the King are all the Harper Collins UK 2005 hardcovers. The links should be the right editions.
