I hope people come around with some good recommendations past the Ipod Classic. I own one, but it'd be nice to know of a nice alternative, due to Apple discontinuing them and the potential, that while I do my best to make mine last for as long as possible, shit still happens.

I found something once, as an alternative. Off hand I don't recall what it was, but I'll go hunting for it and edit in a copy of the name and link. EDIT: Fiio X5II http://www.amazon.ca/Generation-Portable-High-Res-Audio-Player/dp/B00ZWAC25E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1452195491&sr=8-2&keywords=fiio+x5

I have an 80GB iPod 5.5, but I'm really interested in either the Fiio X3 or the X5. The X5 II has 2 sd card slots for up to 256GB at once. I'm not sure, but you can probably just swap out SD cards preloaded with different songs. It also supports FLAC, OGG, and most relevant audio codecs. I'm sure 128GB cards are going to be $20 in a year or so. That would have a pretty decent futureproofing appeal. However, unlike the iPod, I'd be a little concerned about getting replacement batteries when they wear out.

I have the 1st gen of the Fiio X5 and I am pleased with it. The UI could be better, but the sound is great.

Why don't you take a look at the Fiio X5 (2nd gen.) then?

It's cheaper than what I'm asking for and you have the option to return it if you don't like it.

Hi, I currently have the Shure SRH1440 Headphones

I am christmas shopping and looking to boost my auditory experience. I have found lossless music players like the Fiio X5 High Resolution Music Player. I have read mixed reviews on whether or not I would need an amp, or a DAC converter with my headphones. I have also read about using the VLC app on my iphone and purchasing a converter like this.

My budget is around $350. How can I best spend my money to supplement my headphones, and get the most bang for my buck? Also, I want something portable since I listen to most of my music on long car rides in the passenger seat, and already have a good set up for listening at home. Thanks!
