[Important! Update to the Fire tablet review at the bottom of this comment.]

Here's my experience with getting a tablet for the sole purpose of playing Dragalia Lost. I mean, that's it. That's the only reason I went looking, because my phone is old (Galaxy S7), the game lagged unless I lowered all the settings, and we can't afford to upgrade to the newer models right now. Hopefully some if it's helpful.

  • I already own this Amazon Fire and my experience with it is that it will run the game ok, but not great. You have to turn all of the graphics and settings and everything else down to the bare minimum, and it's still not great. The newer version of the Fire uses the same hardware, so I can't imagine it's any better. Now to be very clear, the game will run and you can indeed play, but you are going to lose all of your graphics. This means that when you do raid events, you will not see everyone on the screen because the game cuts them out to lower resource cost. I realize this might not sound like too big of a deal, but it was very annoying to me. But to reiterate, the game will run, and the Fires are definitely priced well.

  • IMPORTANT: You have to install Google Play on it. This is not very hard, but it does require more than the average technophobe wants to handle.

  • I first started looking at off-brand tablets because I didn't care about name brands and was hoping I could find one for under $100 since all I cared about was hardware, resolution, and preferably android over apple. I did find one amazingly-priced tablet with great hardware and a nice resolution, but after it arrived I found out that the company flat-out lied. It got returned immediately.

  • The Galaxy tablets would have been really nice since I'm already familiar with the S7 phone. Unfortunately, however, the hopefully-about-$150 price range for something name-brand was not my friend in this case. The cheapest Galaxy tablets were a stupid price for (imo) awful hardware. I found absolutely zero Galaxy tablets who had anything resembling good hardware for under $300.

  • My husband said that if I was really going to use this tablet a lot, just get something good that was going to be more future-proof because obviously doing the budget route was not working. I expanded my search into the $250 range and discovered that because Apple is trying to compete with chromebooks, their starter ipad is priced right at $250. It also comes with the best hardware by far of anything I could find for $250. The Galaxy tablets weren't even in the same ballpark. I wanted a super-restrictive OS about the same as I wanted a hole in the head, but there was nothing better. I never knew the game could run so smoothly or load lobbies so fast. It does play the game great.

I realize that my solution is out of the price range you have, but do know that the Fire does work.

    UPDATE

During a recent game update, Cygames did some behind-the-scenes optimization to the game that fixed a vast majority of the lag I experienced when scrolling through the Events menu (to get to onslaughts at the bottom) and the game temporarily freezing when hosting/joining lobbies on both my Galaxy S7 and my Fire tablet. With this snappier behavior, I would definitely recommend the Fire tablet as a cheaper and much-larger-screen alternative device to play on.
