I agree with the others- My daughter loves household items or anything she shouldn't have. We gave her an old remote without the batteries, but it only took her a few days to realize it wasn't "real" and stopped playing with it. She'll still go for our "real" remote, and I'll trade her for her "fake" one, but she's too smart for that and will throw it across the room.

For a long time, my girl liked soft toys best. Like little dolls, stuffed animals, and blankets. It was easy for her to grab onto and she liked the feeling of it between her fingers. Still does. Anything with ribbon attached or small parts (that are attached- not loose!) that she could hold in one hand were also good. I wanted to get her something like this, but never got around to it.

She also likes her shape sorter. It'll be a little while for you, but I've taught her how to pick up and put the shapes into the bucket (not through the holes yet- too young). I like to tell myself it'll make it easier to teach her to clean up later on.

Her favorite thing when she was your daughter's age and a little older was this plastic black and white Look Book. The contrasting colors kept her busy for a long time and the plastic made a really satisfying crunchy noise.

DO NOT buy a freaking Sophie the Giraffe. All it is is hype and a doggie chew toy for $25. No joke. If you really want her to have something like that, go to Petco and get her an all-natural dog toy. Our girl doesn't even like hers that much.

Bottom line... No need to spend a lot, especially at this age. Give her free rein of the tupperware cupboard and she'll be happy as a clam. Happy shopping!

As of now only my cherry tomatoes are coming in so I don't need a very big bucket. So the obvious choice was for me to steal the shapes sorting bucket from my toddler daughter. Works perfectly.

My 9 month old LOVES Fisher Price baby's first blocks. I swear he could play with it for hours.

I also give him a sensory book (it's cloth and makes crunchy noises), but other than that, he would play with whatever. I give him magazines to rip apart, he loves that too.

  1. That my babydude is happy, healthy, and SO MUCH FUN.
  2. That my husband is fully engaged in parenting.
  3. That I have them both in my life.
  4. That I have a supportive extended family.
  5. That considering my past troubles, I'm not completely off my rocker and sniffing glue under a bridge.

Was it this one? There's lots of sorting toys out there now if you're not looking for an identical one.
