I'm a huge fan of "Foreign Faction: Who Really Kidnapped Jonbenet?" by A. James Kolar. The book discusses the details of the 1996 murder of 6-year-old Jonbenet, including the initial bungled investigation and the political underpinnings that may have influenced how the case was prosecuted.

Kolar was the lead detective on the case in the mid-2000's, so he had access to all of the classified evidence and court documents that the public doesn't. It was also published relatively recently (2012) and doesn't suffer from that dusty, anachronistic feeling that a lot of other true crime novels do.
