The fighting in China is often forgotten and goes really unexplored in modern day (western) popular culture.
There's a lot of reasons for this of course and its hard to go into all of them, but generally people tend to focus on people who are "like them", especially when it comes to empathy. Given that American pop culture dominates, it is unsurprising that the focus would be on the European war and secondarily the fighting between the US and Japan in the Pacific, while mostly ignoring the fighting in China, Korea, etc.
