I picked up a Foscam 8921W for video that we view on our smartphones. We use this vtech monitor for audio. The total cost when I got them was $180, though the Foscam looks to be way cheaper now, so it's only $120ish for the package.

Works great, no complaints.

We got the same one for $60, and the new HD version is still only $75.

The IR/night vision is fantastic and the motor for the pan/tilt is quiet enough to not wake the baby. The app has everything we need and the whole package was easily half the cost of every "baby monitor" we saw. It also has a two way mic/speaker and comes with mounting hardware.

I highly recommend it.

Foscam is good. The camera itself has a built in web server, and they have apps on the apple app store. This is the camera I got for our baby's room:

(Edit: looks like this is the new version or something...) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006ZPWS4U

It's got IR, pan/tilt, and a bunch of aftermarket accessories. We bought a wall mount for it and its been rock solid. My only complaint is that you need a browser plugin to control the thing. There is a video stream you can use in vlc though if you don't plan on mucking with the settings or angle after initial setup.

I also second the ubiquiti cameras, they have a feed as well, so you can watch it in vlc or w/e, and they also have GREAT free NVR software you can host yourself on your own server.

You're probably better off getting separate devices. The IP cameras are not stable enough in my opinion to be relied on (what happens when the camera locks up or the often-poorly-written software crashes?), whereas the standard audio monitors don't have that issue.

I ended up getting a Foscam camera and a Philips Avent DECT audio monitor.
