I use the Fotasy FD to Fuji X dummy adapter when I want the 1.5x crop. The Fotasy is great quality both ends lock up tight.
When I want to bring the lens back down to it's normal focal length I use a Roxsen Focal Reducer which applies a 0.71x crop to the image. So if I am adapting a 50mm with the focal reducer we take the 50 x 0.71 x 1.5 for a final focal length of 53.25mm. The Roxsen is good but a little lose on the camera mount.
unfortunately not friend, because its an awesome setup and i love it. But if your $700 is a hard budget, i'll break it down this way
X-pro 1: $400 seems about the going rate maybe less if you search harder. THe link below is amazon used, you can probably find cheaper on Ebay.

you could probably throw in a FD 50mm f1.8 to have a quasi portrait focal lenth and still be under 700.
Now if the $400 is still too rich for the X-Pro 1 for you, you can find an X-E1 for around $200-250. I had an XE-1 then moved to the X pro just because i liked the hybrid EVF/OVF on the xpro more.
