Michael Mauti and Michael Zordich will never get enough credit.

Without them, we're talking about Penn State trying to beat Michigan State to get to 6 wins and become bowl eligible this past November instead of a win meaning a trip to the B1G Title game.

Edit: The Penn State sections of Michigan professor John U. Bacon's book "Fourth and Long" are just incredible. O'Brien wanted to give players a deadline to decide to stay or not, and wisely listened to his two senior leaders who led him away from that idea. Really awesome writing, and the Ohio State, Michigan, and Northwestern sections of the book are also very revealing in terms of seeing behind the curtain to those programs. I can't recommend it enough.

I seem to remember reading about it in the book Fourth and Long: https://www.amazon.com/Fourth-Long-Fight-College-Football/dp/1476706433
