We don't know how the roommate conversation went, beyond OP saying Mary called a meeting and explained her problem, and asked for their help. I doubt she offered this as a solution, but it's pretty reasonable to think that OP could at least make an alternate suggestions rather than just "no". Based on the content of the post I don't think she would've disagreed with this approach, and that she may have been willing to pay towards it, since further down she "agreed she'd pay for everything and that she was in the wrong."

My husband and I don't really need it because he and I are really good about not eating each other's food, but we thought about getting it as a gag gift for my father in law.

Fridge locker. It's a lockable open basket. Lock yer stuff up. "No, MIL. That's mine. If you want X body wash, you'll have to buy your own." I say fridge locker because it would be perfect for toiletries that may get a little damp during use. Fridge locker
La única otra solución que se me ocurre es que tengas tu propia nevera en tu habitación o consigas/mandes a hacer alguna caja a la que puedas colocar una cadena o un candado (ni idea de cuánto costaría comprar o hacer algo así).
