I've read several books on the socialist calculation debate but surprisingly the best book on this topic comes from a leftist/socialist. It explains clearly what is economic calculation problem (most of the time people confuse Hayek's Knowledge Problem with Mises' Calculation Problem) and why none of the proposed soluations are actually not an answer to the problem.

I'm not entirely sure about piracy rules on this sub, so I'll just say this: There's this site called Library Genesis and everyone should check it out.

For Marxists, technocrats and other post capitalists

David Ramsey Steele's From Marx to Mises. pdf
amazon (The pdf is not as well formatted as the book)

This is the description I have written for it in my collection.

>One of the single best, clearest and most comprehensive books published on the subject of economic calculation. David Ramsay Steele has managed to create a book that manages to be both good for absolute beginners as well as in later chapters delving into some of the most obscure and difficult post capitalist schemes ever devised. While also providing analysis and background for both Ludwig von Mises and Karl Marx, as well as less well known Authors and subjects such as Kropotkin, and workers self management. Steele's clarity and lack of theoretical and rhetorical baggage make this book excellent for people not familiar with Austrian economics and those who might be skeptical of the idea of economic calculation.

Also this recommendation is not a bash you over the head with it type recommendation. If I was a dedicated post capitalist I would want to have been introduced to this book in order to be a better advocate of those ideas. In the end Steele wants people to come up with ideas to be challenged in what he calls 'scientific utopianism'.
