not like tiny smartphones are anything new or revolutionary to "buck the giant-phone trend". this is an interesting design, but to call it revolutionary is hyperbolic marketing rhetoric.

I've been looking into 'card phones' like this that only text and call, and are the size of credit cards. Maybe this would work for you?

I've also always wanted to try one of these out.

Depending on what you want to use the smartphone for, you might consider switching to a modern dumb phone. They'll run for a week or two between charges.

Also... for $18, you can have a 29 gram (1oz) phone that lasts almost two weeks on a charge. It even has an FM radio, for some weird reason.

If you want to take pictures, there are zillions of tiny, cheap digital cameras on Amazon. Some of them are even wearable, so you can clip them to yourself and do time-lapse, or record video with your hands free. The cheap ones have kinda crummy picture quality, of course, but if you're only bringing a smartphone, you're probably not planning to take spectacular photos anyway. You may as well bring something that will be lighter, have longer battery life, and you won't be too sad if it gets destroyed.

Same goes for music; there are tons of cheap MP3 players that will crush your smartphone on battery life. Some of them will take AAA's; get the super long-lasting lithium ones.

None of these are what I would call "nice" pieces of electronics compared to a smartphone, but they work, they last a long time, they're cheap, and they're light as hell. Also, if you break your MP3 player, you can still take pictures and send texts...
