i'd recommend a boonie hat. they're sold at military surplus stores or amazon
they're foldable as well, but they also keep the sun off your ears and back of your neck - 2 spots that people often forget about when spending a lot of time outdoors
edit: if it's hot where you live, go for a lighter color - a black hat will soak up too much sun and cook the hell out of your scalp
