GameSir G3s - an fyi this is a Canadian link - this is Green but I have the black one which looks sold out and being resold for much higher than retail. The App I use supports other gamepads too.

I dug up the link for the US one for those not in the Kingdom of Canada.

It does ship with a phone holder to mount it ontop so just make sure yours fits before you consider buying.

The App is Matsu player and it does N64,PS1, All gameboy models, Snes, Nes and I think a few others. Ive tried them all and they run pretty good.

Free one has ads but after I used it for a bit of time and saw how good it ran I sprang for the full version. To each their own but I knew I'd get enough time out of it to warrant the upgrade and go ad-less.

I have used the Gamesir G3s controller and it is very comfortable to hold and reasonably priced. The G3s also works with your computer if you like to game on there at all.

If you only plan to use this controller with your s7, you can get the G3 controller from gamesir and save yourself a few bucks.

Is it the price that turn you off from controllers? Because they can be great for other types of games too.

It's on sale and reviews say it works with S7 and gear vr. Haven't been able to confirm these though. Word of warning is that it supposedly is a little confusing trying to set it up at first.

   Obviously there is an advantage to be had if you already own some controllers under one of the suggestions, but aside from that it's personal choice. As a side note, if you get a Pi3 or Pi0w you won't NEED the $13 bluetooth adapter listed for option #3 but it's highly recommended since using the built-in bluetooth seem to have more inherent lag than a USB adapter. It's also worth mentioning that options #1 & #2 will likely have less lag than option #3 even with the $13 adapter since the wireless dongles for options #1 & #2 don't require the Pi to do any of the work in receiving any of the wireless signals and the manufacturers of #1 & #2 claim their wireless dongles are 100% lag free. The Pi will see #1 & #2 as if they are wired USB controllers.
   
   This is not an exhaustive list by any means - just a recommended one. For example, you can use $10 knock off PS3 controllers as well but you need them all to be a specific/identical type and you have to mess with drivers to get them to work right. Also, ANY controller that comes with a USB wireless dongle will work, but quality, number of buttons, response of analog sticks, battery life, etc will vary greatly from product to product.

I use a GameSir G3s on my Shield Pro with a multitude of different emulators & games & it works without issue.

If you do a little research & learn how to config your EMUs they end up looking & playing better than the OG consoles the games came out on.

I recently bough a GameSir G3s. It seems to work pretty well so far, and I like that I can switch it to mouse mode for use with an Android box I have hooked up to the TV in addition to my phone.

I have tried it with my PC but only really to test out the pairing. It seemed to work fine there too.

Alright. This is gonna be a long comment so stick with me as you read it alright. Don't just scroll through it.

So based on your post, you're looking for a wireless controller with a good D-Pad similar to the ones you would find on a Nintendo Controller (Either the NES or SNES i'm assuming). If that is the case, you have two options. Both the options are based on the PS4 and Xbox One/Elite controllers respectively. With that being said, let me show you the controllers.


The first one is the GameSir G3s Bluetooth Controller. This controller is based on the PS4 controller, especially considering the triggers on the controllers based on what everyone says and my experience with the controller. This controller has built-in vibration feedback (spoiler alert: this function only works on PC and PS3). So this controller has a separate bracket for holding an average sized phone, turbo fire buttons, Bluetooth 4.0 as well as micro and mini USB connectivity for PC, PS3, and Android. It also comes with a wireless USB dongle as well (similar to the DJ Hero wireless connector or any wireless connector for a mouse and keyboard). This controller has a battery life of 18 hours as well.


The second option is the GameSir G4s Bluetooth Controller. Unlike the G3s, this controller is based on the Xbox One/Elite Controller as aforementioned earlier, especially considering the design of the controller itself. Also, the bracket is built inside the controller itself for the phone for less clutter. However, the clear and turbo buttons are placed inside where the bracket is located. If you look at some unboxing videos of it, you'll see what I mean. Another thing to note is that it has 10 hours of battery life instead of the G3s' 18 hour battery life. Other than that, it's the same thing as the G3s controller (Bluetooth 4.0, Wireless USB Dongle, Controller Vibrations, .etc).

There is a third option for your situation if you're on a budget, and that is the GameSir G3s WIRED Controller and the GameSir G3s WIRELESS Controller. Even though this is the cheapest option and is still compatible with Android, PC, and PS3, it doesn't come with a phone bracket. HOWEVER, I wouldn't get this because to order a phone bracket, you're gonna have to wait 2 weeks for a 8 to 10 dollar bracket for the controller if you're gonna buy one off Ebay because it ships from China. I don't know about shipping with the controller bracket off of Amazon, which costs 13 dollars, but I'm going to assume that it's going to take the same amount of time if you were to order it off of Ebay. With that being said, by the time you were to pay for the bracket with the Wired or USB Dongle Controller, you would've paid the same amount of money you would for the Bluetooth G3s Controller.

They were both off-brands. The 360 controller is a Ghost Recon edition and the PS3 one was given to me. It's generic and kinda junk anyway.

The other one I thought would work was my Gamesir G3s android controller. Here's the link

The 360 I have is the all black S model from ~2010, while the early ones had gray sticks/dpad.

Funny, DS3 is the reason I started looking at alternatives in the first place. The internal switch for the left analog sticks on BOTH my DS3s started to get stuck and scroll through menus/games by itself. The DS3 that came with my PS3 had the same issue straight from the factory. These controllers were manufactured in 2013--fucking ridiculous. I bought a G3S to replace them and it feels pretty much the same as DS4, but doesn't have the squeaky trigger buttons/comes with XB1 style analog sticks & wireless dongle... and has a battery that lasts longer than 2 hours.

Your issue with getting XB1 to work in Windows is exactly why I returned my original (non BT version) and got that XB1 knockoff.

I've been playing a lot more Android games now that I've upgraded to a Pixel 2 XL. I love this phone. I have very big hands (I'm 6'7"... generally most things are too small for me) and even when I customise the button layout for, say, My Boy! or My Old Boy! I still find my hands getting cramped after a while.

I have been looking at controllers that allow phones to clip on, and there's quite a few on Amazon Canada that look good. I am leaning towards the GameSir G3s with included bracket, GameSir T1s (slightly more expensive for some reason?) or the "Mad Giga". I also was considering the Bonusis STK7003 though it's more expensive and looks like it might be flimsier. Those are all generally within my budget -- $30-45ish.

When I used my Vita a lot, I had to buy a handgrip attachment for it, and even then I would still get hand cramps. It's very difficult to tell from the pictures which of these is the largest. As reference, I really like the size of the Steam Controller, which I've used a lot, and PS3 controllers are good for decent lengths of time as well (though I do eventually cramp up with those as well).

In any case, any recommendations or information about which of these controller types are good for large hands would be greatly appreciated! I could potentially just buy a controller-grip shaped case, but I think I'd prefer to actually have a full size controller.

I'm looking for a versatile gamepad intended for emulation and I stumbled across one called the Gamesir G3. I was wondering if anyone here has used this controller and could share their experiences with it?

I had a PS4 before and I liked the layout better than the xbox ones. The battery life is not very good on the PS4 controller and the ingame icons didn't match the ones on the controller (plus you need a bluetooth receiver or a cable to connect it to your PC).

Which works really well (you just plug it in and works), has PS4 like layout but with xbox button icons, the battery life is much better (so is the range) and it is cheaper!

I bought this controller. It works really well and I'm happy with it. I've not had any problems. There are probably many others that are just as good and cost less (or more even).

I also got a usb battery back to power the headset while playing. I also plug in ear buds for sound.

I've not really found a game I really enjoy yet, but I've not played with it all that much. Depending on the games you play, you might want to sit on a chair that swivels.

Just about every PC controller made in the last 10 years has the ability to pretend to be an XBOX controller.

Find a controller you like and are comfortable with.

My recommendations for PC are either a GameSir or a USB GameCube controller.

That's a pretty good price, but I have to wonder if it's really any better than the GameSir clones that are that $15-$20.

So I dunno. I think for me there's a point where a controller should have PS4 or XB1 compatibility as well, just in case. If not, go cheap.

I never liked the stiff feel of the x1 dpad, and the 360 controller dpad really sucks. I also tried the logitech controller and didn't like their triggers. I also did not like the fact that the F710 dropped its signal all the damn time. The steam controller looks interesting, but I didn't feel like messing around with that.

This is the one I came across. Despite being from one of those chinese knockoff companies the controller itself is built quite well. It has a nice dpad, and the buttons and triggers all feel good. I also like the feel of the PS4 controller. The battery life on it is also pretty damn good and I can recharge it with a usb cable.

I may try the steam controller at some point, but I got two of these right now, and im very happy with them.

For use of a tablet or phone?
For just a tablet I suggest one of the Matricom controllers. They work real well.

Cant beat a basic 360 pad wired or wireless(need a dongle though). Might be hard to find one cause so many knockoffs. I use both but notice now they start to have drift on analog sticks after lots of use, but then again you will be mostly using the dpad.

The nice thing is that it has the XBox’s buttons, so if a game with Xinput tells you “press X” you know to press X on your gamepad, which is useful for fighting games.

Same can’t be said about the PS3/PS4 gamepads which have shape buttons. If a game tells you to press X, you’ll have to press “▣” on your gamepad. That can get annoying.

It’s really good and feels like the PS4 controller (I’ve used a PS4 gamepad a few times).



but If you don’t want to spend 2k you can check out the wireless Redgear one for 1.3k. I haven’t tried this but it has good reviews and is a best seller. The [cheaper] wired model is unavailable.


Sorry if you wanted some super cheap get-the-job-done controllers. I’ve always presumed super cheap ones were a waste of money so I never bothered with them.
