How ever mine came with lava-rock and some nutrients I never touched.
I use the GH Waterfarm. One thing I really like is how they recirculate with just an aquarium air pump, no water pumps to deal with, and I've never had any leaks yet. They're far from the perfect dwc setup, but they do work.
