If anyone else finds that this floats their boat, also look into Kongar-ool Ondar. There are actually plenty of great artists/groups, but Ondar, along with Paul Pena, really brought the music to the western world through the documentary Genghis Blues. It's available to watch online on Amazon and worth the price if you like anything remotely interesting. Its accompanying album of the same name is also fantastic.

Another good throat singing-influenced western album is Hazmat Modine - Bahamut.

You and me both buddy. Plus, Steve Miller band's version of Jet Airliner is just painfully soulless compared to Paul's. He also did some cool work with Tuvan throat singing which you can see in Ghengis Blues.
