Russia was by no means in favor of German reunification. In fact, they had almost no say in the process of German reunification because events moved far too quickly for them to keep up. When Russia was presented with essentially a "fait accompli" and imminent reunification, they decided to cut their losses in the end and not slow down or oppose the reunification.
