The Nexus 7 2013 is available on Amazon. The 16GB is $180, which is a heck of a deal.

I wrote this on one. Gets a lot of use.

Well, you have several options and I think it's important to know whether you get to spend up to 300 on the product, or less and keep the difference.

If you want an Android Device, the new Nexus 7 falls right in your price range. I had the original, and it was pretty good. You get a 1080p screen and Google's latest OS versions because its a Nexus. Google app integration is also fantastic. It's a productive and light device with a lot of media consumption options.

If you want a Windows Tablet, the [Dell Venue 8 Pro] (http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Venue-Pro-Tablet-Windows/dp/B00FEE7B1I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1394742272&sr=8-2&keywords=dell+venue+8+pro) is generally regarded as the best Windows 8 inch tablet. The overall experience might not be as good as the Nexus because you're porting over a full OS to an 8 inch screen, but the potential is greater because you can run normal windows programs on it.

Another option you might want to consider is a Chromebook, which has deep google integration (It is their Chrome OS after all!). The Acer 720p has a touchscreen and good reviews, you also get a keyboard and great battery life! The downside is it's not going to use android apps and you'll have to rethink what you believe a computer should do.

Ultimately it's about what you want to do with it, I think for your needs any of the three above will work, though I suppose the best for you might be the Nexus 7.

I just bought mine a week ago for ~$160, 32gb, from AW. Just checked the used listings again and all listings by AW are gone :/

If you look like at Amazon's page for the Nexus 7 mark 2 they have links to a travel cover(the same that debaserr linked), a premium case(that doesn't have a link yet but looks nice), and a screen protector.

All of them are "official" from ASUS. The ASUS screen protector comes with 2 versions, one glossy and one anti-glare. However, I've always really liked the Armorsuit. They're tough and once it's applied it practically disappears. It doesn't look like they have one for the mark 2 yet but I highly recommend Armorsuit for a screen protector.

Anything from the Nexus line is VERY good quality. They also have the best UI and are first in line for OS updates.

It depends in what size are you looking at but you can get the Nexus 7 for $239.99

If you are in the market for something a bit bigger, the 8-inch Samsung Tab 4 seems like a solid contender at that price point ($219.99)

Nexus 7, 2013 model. Best tablet I ever had, and it's now less than $200 I believe.

Edit: The 16GB model is. The 32GB is closer to $270. Linked both so you can see.

16GB and 32GB

None are available yet but from Amazon we will have a offical premium cover, a travel case, screen protector and you got the slip cover on Google Play Store.
Depending on the price I think I am going with the "ASUS Nexus 7 FHD Official Premium Cover". If its anything like my Nexus 4 Bumper is I know its going to be a flawless fit and it looks really varietal.
Now to only wait for it to be for sale.

Check it out on Amazon. Look under the used deals and there are some in very good condition and fulfilled by Amazon for $148.80. Better price and I've had better experience in the event you need to do a return with Amazon than I ever have on ebay. I have the 2012 model and I got my wife the 2013 last year for her birthday so I have experience with both. Definitely stick with the 2013 version.

I'd still say the Nexus 7 is alive- it's still likely to get software updates and is still a great performer. Go on amazon, they still have it there- 16GB or 32GB. The LG G Pad is also pretty great in any size- it's got a real solid design. I just wish they sold it in a GPE like they did for a bit months ago...

So android doesn't discount?
You're looking at wholesale vs retail prices, pretty much all hardware is discounted from the manufacturer. Including Apple devices.

The Google Nexus page doesn't really integrate Amazon with their own, it's literally just a hardcoded link to the site with some callbacks (think of that as them notifying themselves when somebody browses from google.com/nexus to amazon.com/Google-Nexus....):

<a data-16gb="http://www.amazon.com/Google-Nexus-Tablet-7-Inch-Black/dp/B00DVFLJDS/" data-32gb="http://www.amazon.com/Google-Nexus-Tablet-7-Inch-Black/dp/B00DVFLJKQ/" data-floodlight-tag="https://2542116.fls.doubleclick.net/activityi;src=2542116;type=nexus021;cat=nexus847;ord=1" href="http://www.amazon.com/Google-Nexus-Tablet-7-Inch-Black/dp/B00DVFLJDS/" target="_blank">Amazon</a>

This is not at all complex and, actually, a bit surprising from Google.

Honestly the iPad mini doesn't have a very good screen. The colors are noticeably less vibrant than the other retina iPads (3,4,Air). I noticed it at an Apple store, my wife didn't seem to care but for me it was quite annoying as I'm a color freak designer. I turns out I was right about the inferior screen.

If you want iOS I'd say get and iPad Air, or maybe wait to see if Apple announces a new mini.

If you can't afford it and are ok with Android, for 300$ you can get an Nvidia Shield Tablet, which is one of the most powerful tablets, even more than the iPad Air.

If you don't need much power, for about 200$ you should be able to find a 2013 Nexus 6 tablet, which is still a great tablet for regular use and has an amazing screen.
