I can go right now and order a Nexus 9 running 5.0 and have it shipped to my door tomorrow. I seriously doubt the delays are Lollipop related. I think the issue is that Google/Motorola were simply not ready to launch the device when someone made the call to send out the initial press release back in October. It could also be that they simply did not anticipate the demand that this phone would have, seeing as how everyone and their grandmother shit all over it for having a nearly 6" screen, and they decided that they would attempt a small, quiet rollout and fill demand as it required.

I own the Nexus 9. It's pretty good, $399 for the 16 GB version, $570 for the 32 GB. I surf reddit, type notes and watch videos on it. It has front-facing speakers, so the sound is really great. I like it. Camera is great as well.

The $50 off just returned to Amazon. Hope they're not still sending out models with the known issues, but I suspect this might be the case since the deal is only for the black 16GB model...

It actually just dropped back down, but only for the 32GB versions. For some reason the 16GB black just went up but I swore all the 16's were also down earlier this morning. If you wanted to pull the trigger, now's the time it seems like.

IDK why but I don't really want a laptop, I think I'm set on a tablet even if the chrome books are pretty cheap. I kinda like the Google Nexus 9

It's on Amazon

This is weird. I have 3 sources that I actually trust, giving 3 different numbers:

  • Google Play Store 425g
  • Amazon 435g (converted from 15.4 ounces)
  • Tom's Hardware 480g

The store links are both to the 16 GB Wifi model. I'm not sure what's going on here, but the actual number doesn't super matter. Even if we take Google's number because it's the official one, the thing is only 5g off from an iPad Air 2 despite being a 9" tablet. It's not even lighter than the 9" Amazon tablet from last year (379g). And it's still 30% heavier than the mini. Basically, the Nexus 9 is bulky. I don't know who its target audience is, but it's certainly not people who want an iPad mini.

Now. Right now. At least for the Nexus 9, if you don't mind Amazon.

These two are the best that will fit your budget:

Amazon Fire HD 10" (http://cstore.ucf.edu/hardware/amazon-kindle/fire/kindle-fire-hd-10.html#.V1Fyc5MrKRs)

Google Nexus 9 (http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Nexus-Tablet-8-9-Inch-Black/dp/B00M6UC5B4)

I would also suggest an iPad Mini 4, but that is $379 + tax.

Amazon also makes a small tablet for Less than $50

Amazon Fire 7" (http://cstore.ucf.edu/hardware/amazon-kindle/fire/kindle-fire-7-quot.html#.V1Fze5MrKRs)

Where are you getting $50?

and the Shield console will be $200 + a display

$350 at the moment on Amazon, if that's in budget. It's a rather nice tablet for non-Hearthstone applications, too; I'd recommend it if you're looking for a larger Android model.

It runs flawlessly on the iPad Air, too, but I think that's about the same price. I work in QA on a lot of mobile products, so I have an assortment of tablets for working on; it's definitely unplayable on the Nexus 7, don't even bother with that.

You should pre-order the Nexus 9 on Google Play, Amazon, or Best Buy.

Prices:

  • 16 GB WiFi - Lunar White = $399
  • 16 GB WiFi - Indigo Black = $399
  • 32 GB WiFi - Lunar White = $479
  • 32 GB WiFi - Indigo Black = $479
  • 32 GB WiFi + LTE - Indigo Black = $599

If you aren't buying a case, go for a simple cover. I recommend Poetic SlimLine.

I ordered the N9 white (32gb) last week from Amazon for $460. As soon as I got it in, I saw from the serial number that it was made 10/14, during the time they were transitioning to the updated, problems reduced model. As soon as I got it, I sent it back unopened for a refund.

Then I spent $480 to buy the new "sand" model directly from google play. Everything I read said that the sand model is the newest iteration and has fixed the recessed buttons, and much of the light bleed. I can confirm that the one I received Friday has very little (unnoticeable except in pitch black) light bleed, and the buttons are recessed, but accessible. I highly recommend it.

I know that doesn't help you with coupons, but if you're ordering in the near future, I'd suggest going directly through google to make sure you get the most current model.
