I picked up everything off Amazon (other than the camera which I bought 2nd hand off Craigslist):

Our team did it last year to record game footage. As long as the inspectors sign off on it, you're good to go.

I recommend picking up a GoPro tripod adapter for mounting it. It let's you attach the camera on with a 1/4-20 bolt and is a little more secure than the adhesive mounts.

Sorry for the bad link, on mobile.

I was in your situation a few weeks ago and would listen to what others have already posted.

I would strongly recommend picking up a retractable pole. It helps for a number of reasons, e.g. getting close to reefs/fishes without running into them, taking self/group shots, etc. I found this one from Amazon to be quite affordable and useful.

You'll also need a GoPro tripod mount.

Also, depending on the depth, a red filter may improve the colors coming off the GoPro. Something like this one.

In case anyone is still monitoring this - you do indeed need to buy the tripod mount from GoPro - It's 8 bucks and I got mine from amazon - overpriced and it should be included but it was free shipped w prime.

I ordered the ball only mount from GPS City - but I just realized it was still on backorder. Lame. Here is the mount

What you need is this and a trekking pole (which usually have a 1/8 threaded bit at the top for P&S cameras).

my package didn't come with one - one of the other's might

they do make one though - here

Tripod Mount. Sorry forgot to mention that. They cost like 4.99-7.49 from GoPro/Amazon. Here is a link

The only things I used were:

  • a handtripod, and the suitable mount to use it with my gopro (i used this the most)

  • i also had a headstrap

  • and 2x32gb SDHC

About the Tripod mounts, Does this look like what I need?. Or would it be better to just buy the Mounts themselves? I guess I could find a use for the tripod, but reading reviews it looks like their might be better ones out there.

Are you saying that the top of the SANDMARC Pole the Tripod mount will just unscrew and I'll check exchange it for the "gopro" mount?

I guess that's a good point. Does the remote need like WiFi access or just Bluetooth for the remote? I might have to read-up /watch some videos about it to get a better understanding and all of it's functionality.

awesome that clears some stuff up about the protectors. I was confused at first when I read your comment but now looking at a Hero4 I see what you're talking about.

Oh yea, I completely forgot about using a microUSB to transfer date But I guess I just need one for personal use. I had one for my raspberrypie, but I accidentally broke it.

Thanks for the heads up about the case. I might do a little research before I buy one. But I think I'm on the right trail. I guess I might order everything to get a better visual on what everything needs to fit in it and then I could make my decision.

I don't think I'll be taking my GoPro into the water before I go to Mexico in 5 months, so I might hold off on this stuff. But I will definitely keep it in mind. Thanks again for all your help!

I think if you used this in combination with this it could work.

Not really sure why you would want to do this since parts of the rig will probably end up in the shot because of how wide the lens on the GoPro is but if you buy the $8 GoPro Tripod Mount Adapter you'll be able to mount it to anything using a standard 1/4"-20 screw tripod mount.

great suggestion, but I don't think it's gonna work - they both have three teeth, see Suction Mount & tripod mount

Re: the helmet hero, the outdoor edition comes with 4 little pad things with sticky side so you can mount them to your board. I've heard that it's super loud and hard to see because snow consistently gets in the way.

Depends on what you want to do with it. A mount like [this] (http://www.amazon.com/GoPro-GTRA30-Tripod-Mount/dp/B002RCLYXG) is always useful for using your Go Pro with tripods and normal 1/4 mounts.
