I've had a helmet-mounted GoPro for almost 2 years, and while I've yet to need the footage I consider it a important part of my cycling kit. I use this helmet mount and have never had issues with it. I don't bother uploading or archiving the footage (figuring that no one else is interested in listening to me curse at drivers who irrationally come to a halt in the middle of the block to beckon me into the lane despite having both my feet on the ground and making no moves to enter the lane since I have a stop sign and they do not.....).

I also figure that if I'm going to need footage later, it'll likely be obvious at the time that I should hang onto it.

I am seconding what u/scrubadub said about using a helmet mount.

For a non-BERN style helmet i.e. one with lots of holes, you will need one that has straps to go through the holes on your helmet.

Keep in mind that you can get a whole box of knock off accessories for 15$ Also keep in mind that they might be cheap and shitty. My mount is a knock off and it works, but I have a piece of paper jammed in the fitting so it doesn't rattle.

The Vented Helmet Strap. Holds pretty steady, it's got pretty traction-y rubber on the bottom of it so it doesn't slide around on the top of the helmet once you've got it cinched down.

If you can go ~$150 then I’d definitely recommend the GoPro Session. It’s simple to use, just push a button and it turns on and starts recording. Push it again and it stops recording and turns off. It’s compact, and won’t stick our like a sore thumb when on your head. It’s completely water proof without a housing. (Well, not water proof, but water resistant, but you can take it to the beach and it’ll be fine) You can get a new one on Amazon for $150 or if you shop around on eBay you can a used one for cheaper. Example. Once you buy that you’ll need an SD card, and a mount. Now, if you have a vented helmet and don’t mind some more added bulk, you could use this mount. It’s from GoPro, so it’ll be a bit more compared to off brand options but it will most likely last longer too. Or you could get the adhesive route and get something like this. Personally, I’d recommend the adhesive, but it’s really up to you. If you have any questions just ask. Good luck and be safe!

New GoPros come with sticky/adhesive mounts in the box, so you might have the truck covered with those. For the bike, the Chesty mount or vented helmet strap would be good picks, though there are some great bike mounts too (just aren't as versatile).

honestly, i don't know. I don't use my sticky mounts.

gopro does make a mount for helmets that strap in through the vents, and we use that way more frequently than expected. And it's cheap.
