Used Book in Good Condition
A lot of what you'll find will be tied up in the early Punk scene in LA, and some of the bands that followed The Damned in England. I know there are some books covering the Deathrock aesthetic (proto-Goth), /u/avelucifer once pointed me to this book, but I haven't read it yet.
Start here. As for bands, I'd recommend The Damned, 45 Grave, Christian Death, Samhain, TSOL (particularly, Beneath The Shadows,) Siouxsie & The Banshees, Bauhaus, Joy Division, and whatever Southern Death Cult you can find. There isn't a ton of information out there on the genre, but it's out there.
