Wow, I didn't expect this much hype over a web page. From "poptartdiet's" excerpt above, there seems to be confusion and misinterpretation about our Jiu-Jitsu program. Like the Gracie Academy Combative's curriculum, our white-blue belt program has 20 core classes that have to be repeated, plus additional lessons that include tactical classes. On average it takes a minimum of 120 classes and 12-18 months to earn a blue belt in our program. To earn a black belt under Relson, the minimum time is 10 years; in reality the average is around 14 years with him. All Relson black belts must know his father's self-defense curriculum. This book has some, but not all of the curriculum.

I had a question about your belt promotions. According to your lineage page it takes 110 lessons to go from a BJJ white belt to a black belt. Does that mean 110 classes or is there something more to it?

Looks like most are interpreting the article incorrectly. White belt to blue takes 12-18 months on average and a minimum of 120 classes. Fastest anyone would ever get to black would be 10 years, but on average under Relson it takes 14 years. The White to blue has a 20 classes core curriculum, plus tactical training and other classes not in the curriculum. Over there is over 600 core BJJ techniques and over 130 Helio Gracie self-defense techniques. This book has some but not all of Helio's self-defense techniques. http://www.amazon.com/Gracie-Jiu-Jitsu-Helio/dp/0975941119

How early are we talking? Helio wrote a book, but it's incredibly expensive.

I like Renzo and Royler's book. It's the first BJJ book I bought, and while I think it's poorly organized, the details are solid, but not overwhelming. My favorite part about the book is John Danaher's preface. Worth getting.

Not written by a Gracie, late or early, but the best intro to BJJ I have found:

If you have the Helio book, just take the first 15 or so in order.

There's a chance that it is this: http://smile.amazon.com/Gracie-Jiu-Jitsu-Helio/dp/0975941119/

Keep in mind that "testing" for Black Belt, especially based on specific techniques, is way outside of the norm and is looked upon with distaste for the most part.
