Here you go. Works fine on Windows 7 and 8.

The reason it required Vista at the time is the DirectX 10 requirement; all newer versions of Windows also have DX 10. When the game was released, however, your two main operating systems for gaming were XP or Vista, and the latter sucked if you didn't have hardware with Vista drivers available. Since Win 7, DirectX 10 requirements haven't been an issue.

Isn't that just a normal copy of Halo 2 on windows that can still be purchased today? While yes, it would be nice, that is just Nelson showing off how the surface tablet can game. I really doubt Halo will be coming any time soon.

you need a copy of Halo 2 vista, then use the instructions in the video from the description to remove the Games for windows live software and install their custom launcher.

ughhh this halo 2 online subject surfaces frequently. Heres the bottom line, a simple halo 2 pc amazon search will result in this, or you can buy this wherever youd like. Local gamestop problably wont have it but whatever. After you but this you install it on ure PC and you will be able to play ONLINE through whats called Windows Vista Games. This runs through the xbox live network. You WILL be able to play online against anyone just like you were playing it on your xbox years ago. You can setup a new gamertag or you can link it to your xbox live one if you already have. You can see your friends online and they will see u online(playing halo 2 PC) You DONT need an xbox live gold membership for online play. There are NO ranking systems or playlists, just custom games, usually only FFAs on lockout or midship. Its still fun though. As far as local mulitplayer(splitscreen) i havent tried it but im 90% sure it will work fine.

They're both still sold on Amazon, not sure why others are saying pirating is the only option.

Also if you are getting Halo 1 + 2 You have to get Custom edition for Halo CE and Project contingency for Halo 2 they really make the games multiplayer part. Also Halo CE requires an update from Bungie called update 1.10 its entirely free and easy to find by just searching "Halo CE PC update"

The only Halo with a pc port is the original halo 2 as Microsoft uses it as a selling point for Xbox. Although, the new games are coming to Windows but is being pushed through Windows own storefront for the time being.

That is why i said at the time most of what i listed, accept for max payne and burnout were mainly xbox releases with a windows release usually following shortly after.

Don't shoot the messenger, please - I don't represent codehpro, Microsoft, or anything else for that matter. The site claimed it was legal, so I wrote that.

It's up to everyone to gather knowledge and decide whether or not to pay for a physical, truly legitimate copy (merely $15 at Amazon) or visit Codehpro and pick it up within a legally grey area. Buying a physical copy doesn't mean it's going to work out of the box, either - patches and updates still require external and manual installation due to shaky support Microsoft provides for this game.

Either way, I'd love for a community to continue to support and help revive one of the best competitive and fun Halos out there.
