So we started him on a Hape 4-wheel "bike" and then moved him to this bike (a Pubic Sprout) when he was tall enough. (He's really big for his age: 99th percentile for both height and weight.)

He spent a lot of time dragging it around between his legs before finally sitting down to ride, and for a while he’d only “glide” for a foot or two at a time. Then one day we were at the park and it seemed to just click, and he went from being able to ride a few feet at a time to being able to ride 45’.

My wife and I are both avid cyclists (and all-season bike commuters), and we put far more in town miles on our bikes than on our car. We have a Kona Minute we use to take him to pre-school, so for him riding is nothing special, it’s just the regular way you get around town.

I’ve been obsessively researching toys for our first birthday/Christmas. I’m all about toys that serve multiple purposes and can be used for a couple years and through multiple children. Here are some ideas I have came up with...

activity cube - there are all sorts of different models and brands depending on budget.
Radio Flyer Walker Wagon
Hape Scooter

Pikler triangles look awesome, but they are a little out of our budget. I might see if my husband can build one though.
. pikler triangle

We are also looking at getting some high quality wood blocks - but they might be a little old for right now. Maybe for second birthday.
