Fuel economy. The more RPM you turn, the more gas you burn.

I would recommend you grab a $30 combination hour meter/tachometer that will tell you the RPM you’re turning. When just running around gently, shift around 4000-4500 rpm, when you want to go fast, twist it to closer to 6000 or more. If it sounds wrong at those high revs, back it down.

Doing some reading and googling on the subject it seems like it's not hard to get in the ballpark but you need a tach to get exact settings dialed in.

I put both H and L screws all the way in and then backed out a turn and a half. I figured out that too rich or too lean on the L screw and the engine will die. Too rich and it will start to "4 stroke", it sounds audibly different, the pop is every other stroke instead of every stroke. I'd go ahead and turn your L screw counterclockwise until you hear this so you know what too rich sounds like. Too far clockwise and it's too lean and the engine dies. I tried to get it somewhere in the middle.

I used the T or idle screw to set my idle speed, Husqvarna says that's supposed to be 2700 rpm for my saw but it's impossible for me to tell without a tach. The other way to do it is to dial up the idle speed until the centrifugal clutch activates and the chain starts to spin on idle. Then back out the screw until the chain stops spinning.

The H screw is a bit trickier for me right now. I'm supposed to aim for 9000 rpm for my upper range but again, it's impossible to do without a tach. Too lean (clockwise) and the saw will run faster than 9000, lose power, heat up, and possibly seize. Too rich (counterclockwise) and it will also lose power. I also noticed that if I had it too rich, the throttle response wasn't very good.

All in all the saw works but I placed an order on amazon for a tach to get it really dialed in.

I'd go with this one

The one I use is different but I'll be using these in the future, they seem to be better quality, and the ones I use seem to read the RPM incorrectly (though it may be because it's a 2 cylinder).

I wouldn't worry about it, if the pump says an 8hp is fine, then it should be okay. I would let the engine run for an hour or two without the pump to let it break in.
