[Black Magic Intensity Pro] (http://www.amazon.com/Blackmagic-Design-Intensity-Pro-Editing/dp/B001CN9GEA) is another good high end PCI capture card. However most gamers now days use AverMedia. And as MRBifuteki said it all depends on your PC. If you have a PCI-E slot available in you PC you can use a PCI capture card for best quality otherwise you need an external capture card which will be slightly less capture quality. A good external one i have seen used a bunch is the [Hauppauge HD PVR 2] (http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-Gaming-Definition-Capture-Passthrough/dp/B008ZT8QKO/ref=lp_284824_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1396080981&sr=1-4)

Do not use that capture device. It's only standard def and will look utter shit or won't run.

For capture devices there's a few options out there some more expensive than others. RT use Black Magic's Intensity Pro which is an actual capture CARD that fits into your PC, it's rather pricey and records uncompressed footage so it's better for advanced users.

I suggest looking at the Hauppauge range of capture devices such as the HD PVR, HD PVR 2 etc. I have the first HD PVR model which is component only but it's worked for me fine for years though to future proof I suggest getting the PVR 2 since it supports HDMI.

Editing software; either Premiere Pro or Sony Vegas on PC and Final Cut Pro 7 on a Mac but seeing as you're on a PC the former applies to you.
Very expensive but there are "ways" to acquire them for "free" if you get my drift...not that I condone such actions ;)

Mic-wise; I use a Samson C01U USB condenser mic but I've heard many good things about the snowball mic. I suggest, though not very necessary to get a pop filter also to stop all the popping sounds or the audio clipping if you accidentally blow into the mic.

Watch a TON of YouTube videos about editing; it's can be a hell of a lot harder than it looks but once you learn your away around the software of your choice; you'll get faster and better each time, the more effort you put in; the better quality your work will be.

This should be said; all the hardware and software in the world can't change a bad commentator; be confident when performing voice over; get used to your own voice, you'll be hearing it a lot and make sure you always have a topic at hand to talk about dead air is the worst and keep all the "erm"s to a minimum!

Hope this helps.

Regular streamer here. Not claiming to be an expert; I've only been doing it since around the turn of the year. Also I'm 40, so it's weird.

The purpose is mainly just entertainment. Gameplay has become a huge thing on Youtube (lucky for me) and people tune in to watch, I guess much like they would a football game, except the commentary's by the actual person playing the game. With streaming, it's better because there is a chat room, and the streamer (if he's smart) will interact with the chat and have conversations with them while playing the game, like we're just hanging out.

How it works: There is a free software download called Open Broadcast Software (or OBS for short), that's what I use anyway. Others use one called X-Split, and there are probably others I don't know of. What they do is connect to a website (usually Twitch.tv) and broadcast to that site whatever's on your monitor, and also your microphone usually. They can also work with capture devices like the Hauppauge or Elgato, which are designed to send your video game footage to your computer, where it is then broadcast to the site where people are watching.

The attraction, I guess I inadvertently explained part of that in the first (edit: 2nd) paragraph. It's kind of a way for gamers to connect and come together. I can't speak for all gamers, but I suspect that a lot of them (us) are loners by nature, and this gives us all a sort of outlet, since we all share a common interest.

I recently went on a binge-watch myself for Twitch highlights and came across a lot of the moments you mentioned above. Those are pretty rare occurrences; a normal stream is usually little more than just gameplay and casual conversation, with the occasional slip-up in the game which usually results in a bout of laughter and jeers from the chat. (Happens to me a lot, heheh). Not all streamers take donations (I still feel weird doing it myself, but people kept asking so I said OK), and even the ones who do don't require them for any specific reason. Twitch does have a $5/month "subscription" where people can get a "badge" next to their name in the chat room and streamers will typically come up with other silly "subscriber-only" benefits. It's all about how creative you can be.

It's all pretty new and exciting at the moment, but I personally can't bring myself to take it for granted because it could all be gone in the blink of an eye. Or maybe that's just my age talking.

Oohh, alright.

What console?

And yes it matters on brand. Usually because of audio/visual sync. With cheaper products, the sound is off from the timing of the frames.

This is the one I used for my xbox360. Loved it when I used it.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008ZT8QKO?pc_redir=1413333576&robot_redir=1

Mine was on sale though, got it for 115 on a black Friday.

u/robotortoise · 2 pointsr/AnimalCrossing

Well, if you're looking for a capture device, I'd reccomend the Happauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition. I have it, and it works really well. (Unlike those stupid Roxio Game Captures.....ugh.)

But you'd have to have the component gamecube cable and a gamecube with the component output, so there's that.

u/Taubin · 2 pointsr/GrandTheftAutoV

There is also the Hauppage HD PVR Gaming Edition which does the same thing but isn't quite as portable. It's what I used to record this from the game. It's currently about $144 on amazon

  1. My favorite item on yours is this gamer box.

  2. I'm also a gamer and would love to have a hard drive!

  3. Yes, we do! Check out my $5 and under list or my Digital list.
u/LvL99OnionKnight · 1 pointr/htpc

Well the one I'm getting would be this one : Link from the reviews I hear it captures at Lossless before compression. With that said would be better if I stuck the card onto the HTPC instead of my main? I can also put the PVR after which automaticly captures at 1080p and converts it to x264. But I would then run into the problem of wire order, hence why I need help.

But do you suggest I get an AVR as well? What would that replace? Also the Analog isn't being converted its straight HDMI.

u/GateshipOne · 1 pointr/darksouls

Roxio is meh. It really is not the best choice at the price. Here are your best options. Both work on Mac and PC:

Hauppauge HDPVR

Elgato Game Capture HD

Best Mac recording software. Also "obtainable" by "other" means...

Best PC recording and editing same "situation" as above

Advice: Save more money. DO NOT cheap out on capture cards. The 2 that I listed are very high quality and I have personal experience with both and have liked them all. I have also had experience with the Roxio and the quality and ease of use just does not compare to that of the Elgato or the Hauppauge. These will last you quite a while for multiple generations of devices. You will regret going with a Dazzle, Roxio, AverMedia HD, etc. etc.

u/ChingShih · 1 pointr/darksouls

I would assess what you want to stream and specifically consider what is going to set your stream apart from all the other Let's Plays and live streams out there.

After you've determined that, then look at what your streaming options are going to be (I think the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition might be your only viable option as a stand-alone recording device for the 360). However there are some other varieties of pass-through/recording devices if your laptop/PC can support it.

u/Stepherzzzzzz · 1 pointr/PS3

A lot of people use this.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/cordcutters

No, but I can imagine you can record the screen itself.

I have cable, but hacked my PVR to install a 4TB HDD into it.

just mentioned this to my brother, and he 1-upped me, this looks like it claims to be what you want

Save up the money and buy the Hauppauge HD PVR2 All the capture cards for less than $100 aren't worthwhile unfortunately.

u/To-Ga · 1 pointr/Amd

I'd go for an R7 to be safe, unless you don't mind use GPU encoding.
Another option is to get an R5 and an HDMI acquisition box (like this), for approximatively the price of an R7. This would allow all the room for games on your CPU (just make sure that the box you're buying has it own encoding chip and does not rely on your CPU)

Then:

  • Computer (laptop): HP HDX 18, Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit, Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @2.66 GHz, DDR2 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, 320 GB HDD, 1 broken interior fan, and laptop mouse buttons that don't work

  • Microphone: Samson Go Mic USB Condenser Microphone

  • Recording Software: Dazzle DVD Recorder for consoles. PC capture? Silly human, I don't want to set my laptop on fire.

  • Edit Software: Sony Vegas 10 Pro + Audacity

  • Image Software: Adobe Photoshop CS5

    Now:

  • Computer (custom desktop): Windows 8.1, 64-bit, [Not near my computer so I'll updated this with all my stuff later], 1 TB HDD, 240 GB SSD, liquid cooling, and the blood of many innocents.

  • Microphone: Samson CO1U USB Condenser Microphone with a pop filter and a microphone arm.

  • Recording Software: Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition for HDMI capture, Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR for Composite/component capture, and Open Broadcsater Software for PC capture/streaming.

  • Edit Software: Sony Vegas 12 Pro + Audacity

  • Image Software: Adobe Photoshop CS6

I'm currently not capturing, as I don't want to record emulation. This appears a ton easier than RGB modding consoles though. Planning on picking up this Hauppauge for capturing, after I do more research that is.

u/DrJojoGaming · 1 pointr/letsplay

Am not sure if this helps but i have a Happauge pvr 2 and i could use obs to stream and record with it using a video capture source on obs.

u/legionofacre · 1 pointr/letsplay

I would recommend getting an HDPVR, I use that for my console gaming, and it's pretty cheap considering

Here's the model I use, it has HD component in and out and also allows for standard def AV cables (like PS2 and such):
http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-1212-Definition-Personal-Recorder/dp/B0018LX0DY

This is the HDPVR 2, only has HDMI in and out, but 1080p is nice:

u/Vigoor · 1 pointr/wiiu

No matter where you look you're going to be shelling out around $100-$150 for a capture device. My recommendation

Good luck finding a really cheap one

u/jeffiguritout · 1 pointr/Maddenccred

This is the one I got http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-Edition-Definition-Capture-Passthrough/dp/B008ZT8QKO

It was only $100 when I got it last week on woot. lol

u/Sardonicious · 1 pointr/letsplay

I'm not so sure about a capture card, maybe the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition would suit your needs.

As for the editing software, I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, which you can get for free if you scour their web page for long enough or torrent somewhere. It's not as heavily featured as Sony Vegas or anything because it's such an older version, but it oughta do ya fine for LPs.

u/mikael110 · 1 pointr/techsupport

Using a converter or buying new capture equipment are more or less your only options.

Personally I would look into new capture equipment rather than a converter, RCA are about the lowest quality cables around, running the xbox to the dazzle and then through the RCA to HDMI converter will degrade the video signal quite a bit, and probably introduce some input lag as the video signal has to be processed by the converter before the video is sent to the TV.

New capturing equipment, something like the Elgato Game Capture HD or Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Would result in far better video quality both for the recording and also for what you actually see on the screen, but that is obviously going to cost you some money, what you choose to go with is up to you but those are your best options as far as I can tell.

u/drakfyre · 1 pointr/gameDevClassifieds

If you have an NVidia GPU, I recommend checking out NVidia Shadowplay

Do the videos jitter before you upload them to YouTube? I am assuming they do, but if they don't my solution below likely won't help.

If the problem is the typical problem (Recording jitter due to competing resources for capture and running the game simultaneously) the best solution is a hardware solution:

http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr2-gaming.html

I have one of these and would be happy to capture video for you if you'd like in exchange for that $50. But it would probably be a better deal to just buy one yourself for ~$140.

OBS is Open Broadcaster Software which is a popular, free streaming program that also works as a screen capture program.

If you want to capture gameplay from a console you will need a Capture card if it is a PS3 you probbaly want an HDMI capture card.

Popular ones are the Elgato HD Capture card the Hauppauge HD PVR2 and the AverMedia.

Capturing gameplay from a console always requires a capture card. What this does is take the video signal form the console and splits it. Sending it to your computer to be recorded and to your screen so that you can play. Each of of the capture cards have different features, so do your research. Also, they can be expensive but you will get better video off of one of those cards than a generic cheap one.

I'm currently in an email conversation with a guy 20 minutes away about buying a Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Capture Device(not headphones, but bear with me).

I'm selling my Audio Technica ATH-M30X's for $60, almost brand new. He told me he wanted $60 for the device, or $40 plus the headphone. Nope. I'd be losing out big time on those.

So then he said Ok to the $60 for the device, but then offered me $130 Bose Earbuds, presumable these ones for the headphones.

So yeah, they are twice as much, but I'm not sure I want earbuds, and I don't even know the condition. Should I be wary of this trade?

Essentially I can go with

Option A) Buy the PVR for $60(which is $90 less than brand new) and be done with it, OR

Option B) Trade $60 and my M30X's for the PVR and the Bose Earbuds.

I don't understand why he won't do my $60 headphones for his $60 PVR. I can't seem to talk him down to less than $30+ the M30X's.
