Not really a basic guide, but my favorite trading book of all time is Schwager's "Hedge Fund Market Wizards": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqCOw-pja7E
I came to a lot of the same conclusions presented in the book myself over the years, but reading it earlier in my trading life would have definitely made me learn much quicker. Soooooo much helpful advice by the greats of trading.

Having said that, it's definitely more focused on trading rather than buy & hold investing.

Top books to get into Finance and trading. This first one is by far the most fundamental book. Most jobs you get you will be asked to read this, and even if you aren't its still an amazing read. Published in 1931, still very relevant today, you will read 10+ times over your Finance career
