We also baby gated his room to avoid him coming out at night. It took a while to get him to stay in bed but a solid bedtime routine and lots of late nights. Most nights he would get out of bed and play and then fall asleep on the floor. We put a camera in his room to monitor him and would put him back in bed after he'd fall asleep.
