I've been using the High Sierra Elite for 8 years for exactly this purpose.
After 8 years, looking at it right now, I can't find a single fray, tear, or break. Pics
This is my current work bag. It has a mesh bottle pouch on the side, compression straps, a padded laptop compartment, but my favorite part is the wire handle on top. I also have a red one I use as an overnight/weekender bag when I travel. I got mine at Costco a few years ago <$40 IIRC.

I have a company-swag version of the High Sierra Elite. I'm not sure it's BIFL, but it is definitely holding up way better than I'd expect for an $80 backpack. Several years of daily use with no issues. And it's loaded with pockets and compartments.
