Yep, LED lightbulb with a remote is the way to go. Plus it's super nice for all those late nights, so you can have light, but not super bright white light.
Concerning the voice interface:
Unfortunately I don't have much information about voice authentication. For the speech recognition there are a few ways to go. You can either use an open source project such as CMU Sphinx or simon, you can use a smartphone and SiriProxy (example) or you could offload the recognition to Wolfram Alpha.
There are of course many more options, those are just the ones I remember reading about. You should definitely do a search for "Home automation voice control" and similar terms.
I think an Arduino is a good choice for the outside interface. The Arduino can communicate with the "voice control box" either via USB /Serial, or over a network shield. Depending on how your software is organized, network might be easier.
For the individual controls, you will need to be more specific still. Look at the fan, thermostat, air conditioner and check how they are currently controlled. Is there a remote for them? Do they have some kind of interface exposed, is there a button that could easily be accessed?

Directly controlling the lights with relais either requires lots of cabling or many small slave units that will need another way of communicating with the master.
These are all just intended as starting points for you. Usually for a bachelor thesis you will need to not just demonstrate what you used, but also what you considered and didn't use, and why you didn't use these options.
I've had problems most of my life with anxiety-related sleep problems. I was completely dependent for years on taking a calcium supplement a bit before bedtime - they function like the pill-equivalent of a glass of warm milk. If you're taking one anyway, I'd suggest moving that to bedtime.
Another side-effect free sleep aid - albeit maybe an odd one - is red lights before bedtime. I've tried this after seeing how NASA is implementing this on the International Space Station, and I've been liking it a lot. I've also used the Benedryl (diphenhydramine, on my midwife's safe list) when all else fails. I look at it as these old, OTC drugs are tested very well, and losing a lot of sleep can have way worse effects on the body.

I got the 5 watt A-19; it comes with a remote control and you can have one color going, or have it transition through all the colors.
I love using it when I paint; it brings out neon colors in artwork. The first time I saw one, I was on ayahuasca; it was brilliant!

I would try the 40 watt. 60 just seems too bright to start out with. You may even want to go less than 40 but it will be harder to find. You could try a lamp with a dimmer switch to lower the amount of power the bulb gets and thus its light level. Also I saw a 25 watt on amazon.
