I would say white cabinets (at least the uppers) would make it appear larger. Change the backsplash to a larger tile, maybe a glossy taupe/tan or interesting non-intricate pattern, just something that is not busy. You can also exchange the current knobs/pulls for some stainless steel modern handles sort of like these. The granite, sink, stove all look updated and great, so I would say definitely base your color scheme around that.

ETA: I wouldn't paint the lowers white, I personally like the look of different colored uppers & lowers, but that may not be your style. I would play off the colors in your granite for the lowers, if you do go that route. Nothing too "matchy-matchy" but something to tie the lighter color on top, to the lowers, if that makes sense.
