Until it is done done? I expect it'll probably be 10 more years or so. As we can, we make progress. I have the next 10 big projects planned out, but not much (detail-wise) beyond that.

I've been wanting to build my own house since I was 16, so it was something I would occasionally research on the web. I started by asking myself, "If I could build my life from scratch, what would I want it to look like?" Every morning I'm going to wake up, what will I want to see over my bed? How far away is the bathroom? What will I eat for breakfast?

I'm going to do these things anyway, so why not make them something I enjoy? Small steps and no "decisions by default". I mentioned it in another reply, but a great book on "how do I want to live my life?" which provides direction for how to start thinking about building a house/life is Homing Instinct. When my wife and I first met, we started designing our dream house on our second date. I bought her, her own copy of this book so she could make her own notes in it.
