Those aren't Gamecube controllers, they're Wii controllers that look like GC controllers. To actually use one you'd have to plug it into a Wiimote. It'll work on Smash 4, but I'm not sure they'll be supported in Ultimate.

As an alternative, you could try looking for one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wired-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXJV9NM/

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Pikachu-Wired-Fight-500-100/dp/B07GXB9GW9/

They're new Switch controllers that are GC styled. You can connect them directly to your Switch using the USB ports, no need for an adapter. They probably aren't as cheap as the controllers you found, but they're cheaper than the official GC controllers and they'll definitely work.

If you want a recommendation, get the Hori. That's the only one I've got, and although it's stiffer than the original GCs it's a good product.

Boy did you start looking at the perfect time,

PowerA wired Gamecube pro

HORI wired Gamecube pro

PDP wired Gamecube pro

All of them do not have rumble or gyro, both thumbsticks are clickable and there is a Left shoulder Z button.

The biggest differences would be the designs, PDP and HORI are all themed, while PowerA is normal gamecube colors.

The PDP controller also has swappable thumbsticks for the right stick, you can have two normal thumbsticks or a regular gamecube C-stick nub.

The PowerA controller cable is also detachable.

Will USB Switch controllers work on the Wii U? Specifically this one.

I think the grip with 2 joycons is fine, I did buy a couple of Hori Battle Pads for Smash though. The main reason being I want some extra controllers for when friends come over but I don't want to pay for a controller I can't use for all of my games (excluding Mario Party). I like that it has shoulder buttons on it and that it connects via usb, so I don't need to buy the gamecube controller hub either.

but hey i already have an xbox one controller which is great. Thanks again !

A HORI Battle Pad could do the trick.

I've been using this one for around 3 months now and it's done right by me. It's licensed by Nintendo and Hori make decent stuff.
Edit: FYI it's a USB controller if that makes a difference to you

A few of the reviews complain about the pebbled grip, which I actually like because it doesn’t slip in your hands if you get sweaty. It also does not have rumble, which did not particularly bother me.

I know, I was mostly wondering about this because I wanted to get a pair of usb Hori's GC controller for Smash. And the WiiU GC adapter (some friends have) uses 2 usbs, so it would require a total o 4 usb.
