Replace with the Hori DxM joycons for maximum Ara-Ara

I am just happy that this game led to a collaboration with Hori to release This Joycons Controller.

There are no games that won’t work on a Switch Lite at all, only a couple that would require you to use joycons. Since the Switch Lite has built in controls and doesn’t come with a set of joycons, that means for these games, you’d need to have purchased or otherwise acquired a set of joycons, separately. Remember: the Switch is compatible with all Switch wireless controllers. It’s also compatible with all Switch USB controllers, if you get a sold-separately charging stand that has a USB port(s). The only controllers that won’t work (presumably ever) with the Lite are “attach-only” controllers that must be slid onto the Switch’s side rails to work (no wireless option). The only controllers I’m aware of that do that are third party ones like this and this (both by Hori).

Thus, you can add support for any game, if it’s ever critical. The only major thing you absolutely cannot do, is video out.

That out of the way, the games I’m aware of that require joycons and won’t work out of the box with the Lite, are:

  • Mario Party
  • 1-2 Switch
  • Fitness Boxing
  • Ring Fit Adventure

Another exception would be the Nintendo LABO kits. All the software would work, but these kits all involve custom cutouts that are sized to hold the Switch with its joycons off. Of course, it’s cardboard, so you could presumably figure out a workaround with enough tape and scissors.

I've tried a couple cheap-o grips, and they never feel quite right. The plastic ones always seem kind of loose and I don't like the feel of silicon after an extended period. The Satisfye looks pretty good, but what I'm holding out for is the Hori Split Pad Pro, which basically splits a Pro Controller in half and turns them into Joy-cons, with the addition of things like programmable back paddles that are pretty standard on elite/pro style controllers now.

Granted, it's about twice as much as just a grip, but it's still cheaper than a new set of official Joy-cons.

u/JoshuaJSlone · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Not released yet so there are no impressions, and this is handheld-ONLY, buuut this is the most pro-like handheld option I've seen yet.

u/forestminish · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You could buy a pro controller, they are very comfortable. For handheld mode, Hori makes joycon with a wider grip

u/zetxy8 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

As an alternative to button covers, how about replacing the Joy cons with these? https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Machina-Ergonomic-Controller-Handheld/dp/B07T5QKKVP

If you’re playing handheld, this is amazing.

u/vast888 · 2 pointsr/ShinyPokemon

Hahaha it’s not a case- it’s the new HORI joycons https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Machina-Ergonomic-Controller-Handheld/dp/B07T5QKKVP
Give them 8/10. Much more comfortable but no rumble or gyroscope

u/Thelgow · 2 pointsr/SwitchPirates

Ok, guitar playing probably has you a little more used to bending funny, although may or may not apply to thumbs.

The hori's are basically fullsize pro controllers chopped in half.

Although no wireless option , or rumble, and other things so its just a straight up controller.

u/havok0159 · 2 pointsr/Games

I was referring to this one, not the dpad left Joycon.

u/_IAAI_ · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Theres options like the HORI split pad pro:

Maybe someone can give a better suggestion, though.

u/BraveQ-tip · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

For handheld play, although bulky, the Hori "joycons" for deamon x machina are insane. They ONLY work in handheld, and are definitely made for handheld power users.

How is Astral Chain? I've been meaning to get it as well but I haven't gotten around to it. I may just get a digital copy as my local Walmart didn't seem to have it in stock. I'll probably do the same for Daemon X Machina and get those sweet looking third party joy-cons that are being associated with the game.

u/Worried_Toe · 2 pointsr/AlternativeAmazonVGF

Have you seen this thing? I'm going to pick one up. I play my switch solely in hand held mode and my hands cramp up a lot. I am hoping this helps with the cramping. Finding a case that this thing fits in though and is still portable, will be a challenge.

So I just looked at their other products to see if there already was an Animal Crossing themed one.

There wasn't, but if 90% of your playing is in handheld mode, you might want to look this beast over...

(There is already a Pokemon-themed one.)

HORI Nintendo

u/Lorben · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

The only ones worth having besides the original Joycons are the Hori Split Pad Pro. Most 3rd party Joycons are awful.

Be aware there are some drawback to the Split Pad. It doesn't have an internal battery so it has to pull power from the main Switch battery, no rumble, NFC (for scanning amiibos), or gyro controls.

You gain something much more comfortable to hold, normal sized sticks, a real dpad, and extra buttons on the back you can program.

I would suppose the only appropriate device for you that’s out would be Hori’s new extended joy cons they did for Daemon x Machina. I think they’re kind of too big myself, but might be perfect for you.

This one just came out and mine should be coming tomorrow. No HD Rumble kinda sucks though. Looks so much more comfortable for big hands.

u/xmaxdamage · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

to me it feels great, which is very strange considering I have giganormous hands, but I think you could try the demon x machina controller, which is way bulkier https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Machina-Ergonomic-Controller-Handheld/dp/B07T5QKKVP

Ok so I'm your same situation. I'm recently interested on the switch to use in Mobile mode even if only use at home while spending time with my family. The lite seemed cool because of the Dpad and longer battery time. But with the new revision on the main switch, with an even longer battery time improvement, I'm going for this one.

Given the issues with the joycon drift you can only send the controllers and no just the whole thing. And you can change them if they go bad due to pressing the button too hard etc.

There's also new joycons pro from Hori coming out that can be swapped to get a more ergonomic grip with dpad and other extra features.

And I still have the option to dock if I ever want to.

These chonky Bois

Still no wireless, gyro or rumble, but at least it's symmetrical. Unlike their fake-cons.
