They said they are partnering with razer for keyboard/mouse support and razer is going to make a special device to facilitate that. I'm really curious to see what it looks like! Maybe something like this?

I play both ps4 and PC, and tried the keyboard and mouse on ps4. It is not even CLOSE to the same thing as using your PC, but some people can get good at it. I don't consider it a problem since a) you don't know for sure if they are using one or not, they could literally just be much more skilled at a controller than you and b) I bet you aren't complaining when they are on your team and not the enemy.

All the consoles have stated they are working on comparability with mouse and keyboard in game. Sony even sells its own licensed hardware to use a mouse and keyboard. https://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Assault-Commander-Controller-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01JTOWU0K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497547613&sr=8-1&keywords=ps4+mouse+and+keyboard

Licensed by Sony for use on the Ps4, so in this regard its not cheating.

u/skyrocketing · 5 pointsr/Overwatch

I also think it's kind of a gray area. Sony already officially licenses a KB+M peripheral for PS3/PS4 (Hori TAC), with an updated version coming in November. I wonder what are the rules regarding these when they are backed by Sony?

u/DrLupo · 3 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

FYI - It's called the HORI TAC Pro - Link

It's pretty crap, right now. But it's officially licensed with Sony.

u/crownpr1nce · 3 pointsr/Rainbow6

Does this include officially licensed products like https://www.amazon.ca/Tactical-Commander-Controller-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01JTOWU0K

I know you can use a regular USB keyboard and mouse, but it's mostly for browsing and typing. I think that's what they are talking about. Don't think this is detected as keyboard and mouse.

u/Chrisfand · 3 pointsr/pcgaming

You'll be playing against kb/m users on console as well.

The XIM4 is a thing on consoles and there's nothing MS or Sony can do about it. Heck, Sony has already officially licensed a kb/m adapter for FPS games as well.

u/GerbilJuggler · 3 pointsr/Overwatch

Hmm. Just yesterday I made a couple of comments on this issue. On PS4 since there is an officially licensed keyboard and mouse controller. I haven't used it, so I don't know how accurate it is compared to an actual M+K or a Xim.

u/superspacecakes · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

maybe this is what your thinking of
https://www.playstation.com/en-us/explore/accessories/tac-pro-for-playstation-4/

Its the PS4 offical keyboard and mouse!!! The only problem is that games have mouse acceleration or something because of the games are still designed to be controlled with a joystick... Apparently its great if you don't play FPS on PC becasue you wont know how much better it is @.@ Amazon Reviews

This is also an official Sony accessory. There isn't an official one for xbox, but devs aren't likely to ban something officially endorsed as an accessory.

u/drd7of14 · 2 pointsr/PlayStationNow

I cannot speak to whether or not it works, but...This is an, albeit expensive, 3rd party controller option for the PS3/PS4, but it works with PC normally as well.

I've not ever found anyone who owned it to determine whether or not it worked with PSNOW. I never took the expensive plunge myself.

The Amazon link is + Tax, but Walmart is without tax. Both $149.99 otherwise.

u/dragonx254 · 2 pointsr/FortNiteBR

IIRC, XIM is still able to bypass this. I could be wrong and they made it detectable.

I do know people had issues with this thing because it was being read as a controller AND keyboard/mouse and so it caused issues.

u/GraveSalad · 2 pointsr/Steam

There's KB/M setups sold to work on PS3/4 and apparently create enough disparity that Jeff Kaplan from the Overwatch team said its heavily frowned upon to use m/Kb on console. I don't know how well those devices work compared to regular PC accessories though since I don't own a console but I imagine they're better than a controller or there wouldn't be several game forum threads asking if you'll get banned/if it's considered cheating.

u/shakajumbo · 2 pointsr/OWConsole

How can Blizzard ban people for using official Sony licensed PS4 hardware?

PlayStation sells a licensed keyboard and mouse on their website that allows you to play any game and map it however you like. Don't know about Xbox but surely with the way video games are headed I'm certain they will release their own keyboard and mouse for competitive play.

So no console players are not forced to play with a controller, you don't even need the hori to play kbm on paragon.

u/lDamianos · 1 pointr/PS4

You need a xim or cronusmax. You'd need a PC to set these things up, and I believe the cronus runs through a PC to the ps4. Unless the game natively supports kbm, you need a 3rd party peripheral.

There's also the TAC that is licensed by sony and is plug n play but it costs an arm.

Your thinking of the small keyboard for the menu that attach to the controller. I'm talking about hori. It's not for the menu. It's for the games https://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Assault-Commander-Controller-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01JTOWU0K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1480186875&sr=8-3&keywords=sony+keyboard+and+mouse+for+ps4

Sony has officially licensed a developed and for-sale mouse/keyboard controller. It's been sold for some time now, since November 2016 on Amazon at least https://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Assault-Commander-Controller-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01JTOWU0K

> not supported by Xbox or Sony

Sony has started not only supporting but officially licensing K&M.

It's 100% not cheating, at least on PS3/PS4.

u/nintendodirtysanchez · 1 pointr/PS4

There are games that support natively, you can also get an adapter to use a keyboard and mouse as a controller. Or there is this thing https://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Assault-Commander-Controller-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01JTOWU0K

That can be used in place of a controller.

u/SymbolicGamer · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

> But playstation has licensed mouse and keyboards out in the market.

You mean this abomination?

I dunno. I'd say it's extremely cheap, but not cheating (on PS4) because it's endorsed by Sony. It still isn't the same as plugging in a full qwerty keyboard though. Has anyone here tried that thing with Destiny? How was it?

>Honestly if you define cheating as anything that gives a player an advantage or edge...

I didn't say that. I said the elite controller and third party accessories that function similarly give the player an advantage, but it's not cheating because the elite controller's features are endorsed by Microsoft. (When talking about designing the Elite controller they mentioned that the reason it didn't have turbo buttons is because they consider it cheating.) The back paddles, the trigger stops, the swappable sticks. All that you can get in an officially licensed product. Same goes for using a fight stick in fighting games.

> Just cause a scrub picks up a m&k don't mean he gonna start slaying folks, you still need to be skilled with it as with a controller.

I agree.

Not an adapter, which would've been better. I should've done the research. Hori mouse and keyboard for ps4. https://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Assault-Commander-Controller-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01JTOWU0K

I'll explain it like this: Sony licenses an mnk adapter.... Sony is aware that the only reason people would use said licensed mnk adapter is to play mnk on a game that doesn't support it natively, therefore Sony is showing they don't care if people use said adapters to play mnk on PS4 games that don't support mnk. I'm not breaking PS4 rules, if Ubi doesn't like that PS4 doesn't care if people use mnk or not, then they can remove their game from PS4. If not, I'm not cheating.

Official licensed ps4 product.

It's always easier for people to blame an external source rather than accept blame for their own lack of ability.

"That person runs faster than me! It must be because his shoes are better than mine and has nothing to do with the fact that I'm slow."

u/zackyd665 · 1 pointr/Games

The only reason I asked is I did a bit of research and found official devices like the XIM particualarly the Hori tac pro amazon link

Which was licensed by both sony link and microsoft. news link for MS license

So does the line fall at all non-licensed devices?

If you don't want to respond that is fine I just find this entire conversation actually very interesting and I always have found these kind of discussions just absolutely fascinating. Since I have been having them since the 360 era with arguing about harddrive upgrades(like releasing the tools to let people format any drive to work since they were just 2.5 sata drives "low quality drives at that" in a proprietary case and cable adapter)on the xbox forums no less and sorry if that is bothersome.

u/_LarZen_ · 1 pointr/PS4

Just as with a mouse & keyboard you got to practice. If you just cant deal with a controller on PS4 then give the HORI Tactical Assault Commander PRO a go? It's an officially PlayStation branded device that even Sony has promoted on their PlayStation homepage.

The turn speed for mice is MUCH faster than controllers and mouse if much more precise. With elite controllers you simply reposition buttons. While I will agree there is an advantage, I don't think it's an unfair advantage.

Here's a good video comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb_7Pn133io

Also, if you want a keyboard and mouse for PS4, there are options: https://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Assault-Commander-Controller-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01JTOWU0K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519404002&sr=8-1&keywords=hori+tactical+assault+commander+pro+gaming+mouse+%26+keypad

and it's officially licensed. So I guess my argument is invalidated because they are kinda already allowing it. XD

My desire for a pro controller is more about build quality and form factor than it is about "tactical advantages".

u/Lows005 · 1 pointr/Rainbow6

Gaming ($149.99 price tag). It's plug & play and appears to work fine on PC but the console versions of the games aren't "meant" to be played with a Kb/M so there are issues with the movement and aiming. Rather than the mouse being a 1:1, it merely replicates the movement of a joystick. Major issues with dead zones and acceleration. I'm sure it's something you could get use to, or live with...but it's not quite there yet and I'm guessing it won't be until console fully integrates Kb/M and the game developers add that as a configuration option. I don't see that happening on current gen consoles.

I see both sides of the argument. Some gamers have disabilities and want to play on console, so they need adapters that let them play and then there are others who are not disabled and use these adapters, just to gain an advantage. I'm sorry, but you can't disable the feature altogether. The backlash from disabled gamers that prefer to play on a console would be too great. I think if there is an actual API there, then DEVS and MS need to work on a way to match players with like devices or have options such as a)play with only controller users b) play only with external device (M/KB or Cronusmax, etc) users or c)play with users regardless of device input. I think this is possible if they all put the effort into it on both sides. I mean both Sony and MS have even licensed a M/KB hybrid from Hori.
