Never wear running gloves for temps below 30F when your run is going to be longer than twenty or so minutes. They're usually around $30-$40 and do nothing to keep your hands warm. I ran around 70 mpw in Iowa over the last 6 years. I am somewhat familiar to the cold. Just buy these:

Your hands may get a little warm, but it is much easier to take a pair of mittens off to let your hands cool then it is to make your hands warmer when you're 5 miles out wearing a pair of running gloves.

Also, you would be surprised at what tucking your shirt in can do to keep you warm.

they're really mittens, but i like being able to change them whenever i want. i bought two pairs of these gloves because i lost the first pair and i really liked them.

I'm in BC (regions 1, 2, 3) and only use a flip up wool mitten, like this. Wool+fleece keep their warmth when wet, and i wouldn't put them on in the rain until i was to an area i was going to sit for a while and/or it was cold enough to warrant it.

I've got poor circulation and i find gloves just don't keep my hands warm at all, many times they actually make them colder. Mittens on the other hand? Nice and toasty, and when its time to shoot just flip the front and your ready to go. I've seen Blaze Orange ones at BassPro but other than that I'm still looking for nice hunting ones but everyone just makes gloves.

Randy Newberg recommends a "chopper Mitt" which is a calf skin mitten with a sheep wool liner for the cold and goretex gloves for the rain for what thats worth.

As for dexterity in a glove without taking them off: they're either going to be real thin and for concealment or insulated to keep you warm(and thus too bulky to shoot with).

I find touchscreen gloves to universally be inconsistent and frustrating. They’re never warm enough, either. I use these convertible mittens instead and they work awesome. I keep all of my hands in the gloves except for two fingertips. Here’s a visual demonstration of how I do fast catch this way. I’m considering getting a stylus for all game functions other than fast catch so my hands can be in the mittens most of the time.

It’s gotten below -10C here and I can comfortably walk around outside for 3+ hours like this.

I've been really enjoying these . They are convertible mittens, and the cutoff glove portion is great for using your phone, finding your keys etc. And good value at about $15.

I have really started liking my fingerless gloves. Warm enough to do stuff outside for fairly long stretches (eg. shoveling snow), but rarely have to actually remove them to do stuff (eg. using keys)

wool is warmer but also the cheap wal-mart gloves are synthetic. notice how these you have to size very specifically? the wal-mart ones will stretch significantly to accommodate all sizes leaving gaps and less material to cover you.

lol the link i posted are kind of expensive because they're made in small batches in austria from wool and dyed these crazy colors but there are a lot of cheaper versions just as good like these fox river or maybe this fingerless blend and here's a mixed blend sentry glove.

i always have to wear two pair of cheap walmart gloves, usually one regular and one fingerless over the top so i actually have some use of my fingers.

I don't know how hardcore of an outdoorswoman you mean, but my first thought was a hammock, too. Eno is a solid brand, but you can find hammocks for a lot cheaper with bugnets or other accessories.

But for a more pragmatic person: a water bottle, a winter hat, a pair of gloves, or a tumbler.

Small gifts that will be used often can be more meaningful, at least in my experience. Plus, you can give more than one, which makes the total gift seem larger

I also have similar ones from Carthartt and another brand, but the main thing for playing in Western NY region is the thinsulate (lots of it) and for me, much bigger gloves than my hand - it's like a blanket. I usually just stick one finger out (even in -20 F weather) to play and put it back in the mitten once I spin/catch.

I have these exact gloves/mittens and they're fantastic. Let me tell you why mittens are better than gloves. Body heat. In mittens your fingers release heat that gets contained in the mitten area and it keeps the finger tips warm. I've used so many different types of gloves and these things work the best. I've tried both leather gloves and ski gloves, but in 0 degree F weather, these mittens worked the best.
