Hi there, welcome to the sub.

I too started as a poker player (NL hold'em), and you'll actually find that a lot of the skills that make a profitable poker player are the same as those that make a successful trader.

You don't have to start with $10k if you don't want - I started with $1k myself (I would recommend a little more than that because the fees cut my profits by like 2% when I started), but 2-3k investments are a great place to begin. You're going to lose money when you first start no matter what, so better to learn with smaller losses before going all in.

Similar to poker, a lot of this you'll have to figure out for yourself through your own research.

The two sides of stock analysis you'll want to begin learning about are Fundamental and Technical analysis. Fundamental analysis looks at the company's financials and SEC filings to determine its value and health, while technical analysis looks at past price movements via stock charts to determine patterns and gauge interest.

I'd recommend www.freestockcharts.com to begin, and http://stockcharts.com/school/doku.php?id=chart_school to learn how to read them.

were the books I read when I first started out, but depending on the type of trader you want to be you could find any number of useful books to read.

Just remember that like in poker, winning long term on the stock market requires playing the probabilities and not letting any one hand wipe you out. Risk management is a big part of both so I'd focus a lot on learning how to apply that in the markets.
